Hey All,

Last night as part of my weekly film series I showed a 8mm Niles print of The Passion Of Joan Of Arc (1928). Being familiar with how Niles prints can vary form poor to ok, I knew what I was in for. I had only previewed the print once before on a smaller screen, but seeing it on the larger one where I show films, I was quite impressed.

The films Director Carl Th. Dreyer had originally chose this film to be viewed silent, with no musical accompaniment. I had read that over the years other people had written scores for the film, and even Gregorian Chants worked nicely. I chose a Vox recording from LP's that I transfered to cd, and they did work quite nicely indeed.

I think this is one of Niles best releases, and it only flaws is that it had been previously a school print, and had its share of scratches and some splices. This though was not enough to take away from the beauty of this film. I only wish Niles could have been this more consistent! Next week is a super 8 Thunderbird print of Ivan The Terrible from (1944), which for the most part is equally as good! I'm waiting on the mail for a 8mm Niles print of Witchcraft Through The Ages(1922), I will Keep you posted on that.

Hi Brad,

How about a few more details on your series? And perhaps a picture or two?

Doug
