The year has just started and I have made my first purchase. It is "Jazz and Sand" an old Collector's Club release (super 8 200ft black and white sound). I love Wilson, Kepple and Betty doing their famous sand dance. It would be great to hear what all our first film acquisitions of this year are.

I just made some purchases at the end of the year. Unless it's something I really wanted. There was a 16mm Alien scope print that went too high on Ebay. Otherwise, that would have been it.

Sad story. I won an auction for a film I've been seeking for over 20 years, the 400 ft Apollo 14 Super 8 film from Movie Newsreels. But the seller sent me the wrong film and sent mine to someone else! Argghhh!

John

Cheer up. If the seller has good FB you will get your film. That has happened to me and all ended up well.

Pasquale: It all depends on if the other buyer sends it back. The seller's trying to work that out.

I bought these in late 2010, but they arrived this week..
1. Spectacular scope trailer of Premature Burial...gorgeous
2. trailwer reel of On Her Majesty's Secret Service/License to Kill ....not bad.
3. a Super 8 feature that arrived yesterday also...Shall We Dance...Astaire/Rogers ...have not checked it out yet...but hand inspection ..looks decent and a bargain price on ebay of 59 dollars. Mounted on nice goldberg 1200ft reels...and obviously well cared for.

Gary - I'm curious about the 'Premature Burial' trailer as I've recently ordered one. I wondered if it's printed on polyester stock and just has the main stripe? I've been looking forward to the lab switching to polyester as I think it will mean brighter colours, but the most recent item I bought (the 'Avatar' trailer) was still acetate.

Same here.. the first film I received in 2011 was a late 2010 purchase off this forum from Joe Morrison of ROAD TO YESTERDAY (1925, S8 sound Blackhawk feature)although the first one I have paid for in 2011 is a French release of a late British silent called le noyé de l'étang de Wilbury (aka THE WARE CASE, 1928) on Standard 8 silent 7 x 200ft but it hasn't arrived yet....On a side note my first projector purchase is a disappointing one... It was a nice Pathe Baby model A from 1923 which was so poorly packed that the original glass was broken when I opened it up....That glass survived 87 years intact, but could not survive one careless Americans' packing... Purchased right at the end of 2010 for xmas pressys, the marketing feature of Grease, and a full length feature of Gunga Din,(not seen this before) im still looking out for that scope feature of grease though. Have to say a little dissapointed with the condition of Grease but it was priced accordingly so no room for moans on this, colour seems pretty good to.

My first two purchases, were two Niles super 8 prints Witchcraft Through The Ages, and Reefer Madness. Both I'm waiting for. Witchcraft has always been a struggle with ebay, because I have always been outbid, this time I got lucky.

I have heard the quality comes and goes, but to have this rare film is still worth it. I don't know of anyone else to have released it in 8mm or super 8. I'm anxious to give a full report after a viewing which I hope will br after this weekend.

Oh dear, ive spoke too soon, viewed Grease tonight after cleaning it up, bought it as a feature and lo and behold between the two parts (its on two 800foots, polyester thin stock) theres a whole 400 ft missing which i believe to be part 3 of tghe feature Greased lightning and beauty school dropout scenes are missing alltogether, and also there are worse things i could do and stranded at the drivin are all missing,
So dissapointing, i shall have to ring the dealer tomorrow but it looks as tho he's been stiched up, now im on the look out for the feature again [Mad]

For me, it was 'Toy Story', being my first purchase in 2011. Waiting on word from Derann on a few other titles, so fingers crossed.

My first purchase of 2011 was a big package from Top Film which due to the holidays post office overwork and various strikes here in Greece, took almost a month to reach me. First, I must say that Ton van de Kleut is a fine gentleman and most helpful, (he even sent the package before I sent the complete payment!). This was my second purchase from him, having done a small one late last year,so I knew what to expect, more or less. The films were all standard 8 silent, some very old copies that had seen better days. Many cuts and splices, mostly no beginning credits, practically all with dutch titles and intertitles, quality generally average minus, and prices very low !!
Choosing the titles was another problem as his catalog is in dutch and ,in addition, most film titles are changed. So using the bing translator and my sixth sence, I made my choices. And most of the time I was lucky (the garbage searcher that I am )!!
Best known film from the batch is LIGHTHOUSE BY THE SEA, one of the best Rin Tin Tin adventures (written by Darryl F. Zanuck!). Others are, two westerns, FLYING HOOFS with Jack Hoxie and THE FIRE EATER with Hoot Gibson and another dog adventure which looks like a Rinty, but it most probably isn't.Perhaps one of his competitors (the dog is called Ranger in the film). Another film is titled "Robinson Crusoe",in dutch, but is actually a french film about a boy scout who dreams of running into the jungle, meeting his "boy Friday" and together having many adventures with various animals and "natives".
Of the shorts there is one german SNOW WHITE,a live action two reeler from 1928,a version of Starewicz's VOICE OF THE NIGHTINGALE,which is longer than the Blackhawk one, or is it because it has much more narration,(in rhyme)? Of the two reel comedies,a Big Boy (Malcolm Sebastian) one, the title of which I have yet to define, ditto for a Snooky the Chimp (or"humanzee",as he was called). A Syd Saylor (from the "Let George Do It" series),perhaps GEORGE IN LOVE,and another kid comedy, FOLLOW THE LEADER (Fox 1928).Also a "Collegians" episode with George Lewis. Will I buy from van de Kleut again? I certainly will!
