Hi Everyone

I've just bought a Eumig P8 Automatic Novo projector in order to view my Grandpa's home movies (dating from the mid 50s to late 70s).

Unfortunately I've had some problems getting it working. The film will not move correctly through the film gate and pulls tight below it (in between the film gate and take-up sprocket). The film then makes a clattering sound and the image judders.

When I first got the projector I watched a 50 foot film with no problems, but as I tried to watch a 2nd (longer) film the problem occured after a few minutes. I rethreaded the film and it worked well for a few minutes....but over the course of the evening the problem occured more and more frequently. Now there is no movement at all through the film gate until the film has pulled tight, whichever film we try to view.

I have noticed that if the film gate is not properly closed, sometimes the image will play smoothly (although of course it cannot be focused.)

I have tried lubricating an old film with beeswax furniture polish (a tip from another forum) but it has made no difference.

Thanks for reading all of that, if anyone has any ideas I'd be really grateful!

Annelisa

Hello Annelisa,

welcome to the forum. I'm not the most knowledgable member but I do have this projector too.

You may already be doing this but have you unscrewed and removed the autofeed mechanism as I have found this to be quite a nuisance and manually lace up the machine instead?

The fault you are describing is loss of loop which is normally caused by sprocket hole damage on the film - have you checked the films over prior to projection?

If the films are fine and this still happens I'm at a loss.

John
