Doug, thanks for the linking of the parts. To keep this together, here's part 3:
We ran a lot of film. The machines were busy both days:
Saturday night meant "dinner and a show" as usual. Off we went to the restaurant. The place was packed, and the spirited film and equipment discussions resulted in some worried looks from the "civilians" around us...
Then again, look at this group...
Time for the evening show. Beer, snacks...and more film:
Well, you knew it would happen, didn't you? The boys on their own, far from home, booze at hand...in the midst of our wholesome entertainment, someone put on a stag film. We were of course suitably outraged, but it didn't stop us from watching it:
And so, come Sunday afternoon, the show ended as it had begun: with the carrying of crates of film and equipment and the shaking of hands, to the tune of the ocean in the background.
A big "Thank You" to Doug Meltzer and Lou Franchetti (and anyone else who helped behind the scenes) for making sure that CineSea 4 became what it should be: a laugh- and film-filled tribute to John Black and his idea about the festival by the sea.
Before I end this, a little "finger wagging"
We heard many promises of people coming and yet many didn't show. It was frustrating both in terms of participitation and also because we were looking forward to meeting you guys.
You have about 6 months to plan this, to put aside two week-ends out of the year to support the film cause. I know the economy is bad, emergencies happen, but still.... I gave up a lucrative free-lance assignment to be there.
I have said it before, and I'll say it again: Wildwood is special and it fits what we do, in mood, in character, in affordable fun. No downtown chain hotel will ever offer that and I think once you have been by the sea with us, you will understand.
Hope to see many more of you in the spring.
Claus.
