Hello. I tried to run an Elmo ST-180E M after a very long period of inactivity and both belts immediately broke. Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace these? (It is the first time I've even had the back case open.) Is there a place to access instructions, eg a service manual? And is there anywhere you'd recommending purchasing the belts? Thanks for any help!

It's not actually that bad: you may need to remove a small metal clip to get at the pulley for the rear spindle, but as long as you put it back together the same way you took it apart you should do fine.

I get my belts from this E-bay seller:

Thanks so much! I read somewhere that you need to adjust the circuit board with a potentiometer and somewhere else that you need to adjust tension -- neither of which I was prepared to do.

I've had to re-tune the speed potentiometers when I replaced a motor, but never while replacing belts.

I suppose it could make a difference in speed, but at least so far that difference has been small enough not to notice.

I've heard there's a window of about +/-5% projection speed where the difference in audio pitch will not be apparent to most listeners. If this is true and you stay within 23-25FPS all should be well.

There's a belt tensioner pulley on ST-1200, but I don't think there is one on ST-180. My ST-800 is similar to the ST-180, and when I change belts I don't adjust anything.
