Hello everybody,is it true that the Elmo st1200HD only can record in mono and that stero re recording not possible is in this machines?
Please let me know of there is a possibility to re record my prints in stereo!

Hi,
As you are aware, the HD is a dual track projector but you can only record on one track at a time so a straight stereo recording isn't an option.
I suppose the only way to do it, if you have the patience, is to record one half of the stereo track onto the main stripe first then go back to the beginning and record the other half of the track onto the balance stripe. This will of course double your recording time (at least)even then you would only have stereo playback by using the monitor outputs on the back of the machine to feed an external amplifier. Keeping sync between the two stripes may be a challenge too.

Ha ha not thanks that's to much work,it's better to make two mono soundtracks and then it is ok for me one dutch for the little one and one English for myself.

I think never ever try to record the stereo track by two different takes like describe above. When you have slight drift, a very very slight, our eyes cannot be able to notice it but our ears can. This because a very slight drift will create sort of echoes effect (instead of stereo) and this will bother you so much.

Either that or we need to install a speed control on one of our ears [Big Grin]

I prefer mono actually, and usually record the main English track on the main stripe, with Norwegian dub on the balance track :-)

I wasn't for one minute suggesting what I described to be a practical or viable solution. It was just an answer to a specific question from Jeroen about the 1200HD, pointing out the impracticality of such a undertaking.

I've done "wild syncing" with just projector, VCR, and tv moniter quite a few times, with excellent results. I'd say 80 percent of the time, the full length features stay matched for about 400 to 600 feet. Then, stop and adjust. The digests take more patience, but its fun & the finished product will give great satisfaction!

I use a Sankyo ST-800 for recording onto the films. I've used VHS and DVD formats but, for whatever reason, I prefer the VCR stereo tracks. They seem to come through more powerful sound than the DVD. Both are good though.

You are quite right about the sound. VHS has a superior sound than DVD because it is analog uncompressed audio while DVD is compressed. Same to LaserDisc, this is also uncompressed sound so is better than DVD (in terms of sound)

The quality of VHS is similar to 2 inch audio tape. As far as I know some studio chose VHS tape (or Beta tape) as a master recording tape (used for sound only).

Someone offer me a Bauer t600 and t610 are this good machines to re record?because the st1200 is a great machine but not good
for this kind of jobs.

Occasionally I use the T610 for this job, but I had to modify it and have the inner speed reg trimmer moved outside of the machine. Again with a a non-quartz machine (and Bauers AREN'T!) keeping a 400' film in perfect sync for the whole opratrion is plain luck! It is not reliable. Using a T610 will require to correct the speed from a little faster to a little lower, even a few minutes after the beginning of te operation. Ths is not possible with a T600 because its motor is not electronically controlled.
