Hi,

Does someone know the film lengths of these two features? Derann released Master and Commander as 7x400' and The King and I as 5x600'. My more precise question is: would each of these two features fit onto two 1200' reels?

I have a mono magnetic sound projector, the ST-1200. If these features have both English and a foreign language on their two tracks, which track must have English to work for me? Track 1 or Track 2?

Grateful for any help.

Regards,
Akshay Nanjangud

Akshay,

Normally 1200' is on 12' inch normal spool. But there is a Supa Spool with 12' diameter that can take until 1400'. So it will fit also to ST1200 without any modification.

Therefor "Master" 7 x 400' can definitely will fit into two spool.

For "King and I" I cannot give the answer because 5 x 600' is 3000', but I can confirm that this can also fit to 2 Supa Spool, because I have this title at home in two Supa spools (but haven't watched it so I did not know if there is cut or no).

Now, about ST-1200, it can take also 1400' normal spool (13' instead of 12'), however, you need to open the swing cover during play, because the front reel will be to tight when the cover is in place.

For take up reel is no problem at all.

cheers,

Thanks, Winbert. Do you know anything about the dual language soundtracks I asked about? Which track should be in English if I want to play the English sound on a mono ST-1200?

Hi Akshay,

I'm afraid you may be stuck with whichever language is on the main track (track 1), I don't think you can play track 2 at all on your machine.

Of the 3 ST-1200 models, only the ST-1200 HD is capable of playing both track independently or simultaneously.

Thanks a lot, Jon. That confirms my suspicions. Thanks.

Master and Commander is stereo english so no problems there - unless you get a print with a dodgy balance track of course. My own print didn't have great sound so I've never run the Super 8 tracks and always screen it with sync' sound from the PAL DVD. You need a GS1200 to be able to do that though.
