In the chapter "I'm not the most intelligent person in the world", here is another page. A friend of mine asked me a few years ago if I wanted (for free) a projector she had in her attic (it appeard that it was a standard 8 Eumig). I of course accepted but when I opened the carrying cas, I saw that the arms were missing. She told me that she would search for them but they never appeared. Yesterday, I decided to have a look at that projector and I noticed (what I should have done the first time !) that there was not space enough in the carrying case to add arms. So I opened the projector and I found the folding arms inside ! I still have to try if it works as the plug has no earth hole, so I have to find an adaptator.

The P8 is a great little projector. The earth connection is made by the side metal pieces on the mains input socket.
Mains leads from the early Eumig sound projectors (before they changed to the IEC connection) will also work with the P8.

maurice, I was refering to the Belgian (and I think continental) plugs designs. You have "plate" ones and "round" ones. The round model (from the appartus you want to plug in the wall) has now two metallic sticks and a hole (the hole is for the earth metallic stick from the wall plug). Older "round plugs models" have no hole as at earthing was not common in the past and so these plugs don't fit anymore in the modern ones. It is very easy to use an adaptater but I have to find where I put the one I have. I hope my explanation was understandable. Otherwise I can write it in French ;-)

I assume you have a lead that will fit into the projector, but does not have suitable plug on it to plug into your wall outlet mains socket?

That's exactly that but it easy o fix. I just need to put a small adaptator. I have one, I just have to find it back. Otherwise, it costs about 1 euro.

I ran the projector. It is seems to be ok but I haven't tried with a film, yet as it is not clean. I put oil were there are red holes and it seems to be less noisy that when I first tried without oil. However I am sure that other parts should be lubbed after all this time. The inside of the projector is not clean and you can see some (very) small evidences of rust. The take up reel turns oppositely as other projectors but from what I could read on the Net, it seems to be normal. Looking for informations, I found an ad where the sellers mentionned the "missing arms". I suggested to open the projector to see if they were not inside ;-)

The socket (the P8 end) should have metal all round for earth connection at the projector.
Similarly, the mains plug should have two side earth contacts.

Hello Maurice, the P8 powercord in Holland doesn't have the earth connection, the later ones from the Mark series do. i copied the bakelite housing exactly from the originals so as you see it on the picture, thats how the cord for the p8 is. i can understand that the UK had other safety rules about this and required earthed cords. however, the projector will run fine without it

Either use all P8 projectors or none at all. Their a$$ backward way of the reel position will drive you nuts if you don't use it regularly.

As you know, I live in the U.K. and my Eumig P8 novo phonomatic has a power lead as I described.
Our earthing regulations in this country are very stringent and I certainly would not want to use a lead as shown.

I have one of these projectors - in fact it was my first as a Christmas pressie that started it all!
Can you simply make the belt that drives the film reel into a number 8 instead of a loop to alter the way the reel turns?

Hello Maurice, that is very understandable. i did some research and the UK powercords are indeed all earthed. the cords without earth will work fine as they have for many years in europe and amerika but in the UK every apparatus is earthed. i found in one of my projectors an earthed plug so i'm gonna try to replicate that one. then i can sell it in the UK also.
