Not intentionally, these last two weeks, I find myself having visited two dealers; Paul Foster Films and Tua Films (Debonaire).
Last week was Paul Foster; the pile of films he was keeping to one side for me was growing by the day, so I thought I had better go and collect them. A straight-forward drive to Paul's and a boxed GS800 and Super 8 films were mine. I bought quite a few trailers such as Casper, White Christmas and Gulliver's Travels...all very reasonably priced. Paul's set up is well organised and he said he has enough films for many more years of listings, which can only be good news for us. His shelves were loaded with Super 8 films of all kinds and I counted quite a few decent Super 8 sound projectors he had too. I have always found Paul to be a very fair and honest dealer, and after having dealt with him for well over ten years, I think I've qualified to make that comment.
Today, I find myself having visited Rob Foxon of Tua Films in Leicester. I received his list this morning and decided on a British Transport Film on 16mm. This visit tied in nicely with my collecting a non-cine related item bought from Ebay, located just ten minutes away from Rob! His set up is mostly 16mm, and the shelves really were three-deep with cans of film. And that's not for sale, it's his own collection of film! I arrived the day the list went out, so the phone was ringing with customers placing orders. Again, Rob is very fair; he made a special effort to get my film from his archives with only a few hours notice. From both trips, there is one similarity...the phones were ringing with customers buying. Both dealers were busy which is pleasing to report.
Interesting trips and it's always good to see the places we usually only contact by phone or email. [ August 01, 2012, 06:02 PM: Message edited by: Simon McConway ]
