I saw this in a little corner of Ebay thought I'd bring it to the attention of the forum. I've never seen one of these

This has been discussed on this forum before: Bolex Sonorizer

Here is some more information on it: Bolex collector

That one on Ebay looks mint! Someone really took good care of it over the years.

The Bolex Sonorizer was just one of many add-on mag stripe sound systems that were manufactured prior to the development of the first 'proper' 8mm sound projectors. Cirse in Italy had a sound attachment very similar to the Bolex Sonorizer that connected to the top feed spool of any projector. The main problem was that none of these systems had the same picture to sound separation, and even worse the sound was behind the picture! It was not until regular 8mm sound separation was standardized at 56 frames ahead of the picture, that proper 8mm sound projectors really took off.
Today, the Bolex Sonorizer and similar units, are essentially useless for film making, although interesting devices.

Hello, I'm new here. I purchased the Sonorizer unit mentioned above...yes, it's in mint condition (although the manual is missing). From what I can tell this unit is brand new, I really don't think it was ever used at all. It's also very heavy...took me by surprise. Can't wait to fire it up!

Personally I don't favor a Sonorizer.

I would rather invest my money in a Interociter like the one in "This Island Earth"' [Big Grin]

I didn't buy it ($100) so much for the function or potential use as for the fact that I'm a fanatic Bolex collector! (Yes I got bitten...but bad)! It will be interesting though to hear the quality of the sound produced...I suppose that'll depend on the mag stripe, the playback head (assumes to be new) and the speaker that comes with it.

I'm with you there Pat, what about a Velociraptor, although they
do tend to chew film a bit and are quite rare.

That thing looks awesome! It does look brand new. I have a Bolex M8 projector that I use for standard 8mm and I love it. The thing works perfectly. You will have to report back about that Sonorizer after you mess with it.
