Following on from my 'Dapper Dalmatian' question, what Disney extracts work well as a 400ft digest. I have 'The Jungle Book' and 'Bambi',do any forum members have other extracts that work well?...

The Fantasia extracts are very good.

It's only natural since Fantasia is a series of self-contained segments. Walt Disney intended that every few years there would be a re-release. Some segments would stay, others would be replaced.

It didn't work out, but the consequence is when Derann decided to sell Fantasia in extract form it almost came with dotted lines and "Cut Here" in all the right places.

The only fly in the ointment is "Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria". Somewhere along the line the negative was damaged, and the sound isn't consistently good either. At first I thought it was just my print, but I've heard the same from others.

-It's still enjoyable, just not top drawer stuff like the others.

I think most of the WDHM extracts with the exception of "Mowgli" tend to be an actual excerpt from a particular point in the film.

Therefore the Jungle Book ones seem to work the best but I like quite a few of the others just for what they are when spliced together.

One of my favourites and isn't available as a full feature on Super 8mm is The Rescuers. Works even better if you purchase the German longer extract to couple alongside Albatross Airlines. Then of course you have to do some dubbing.

I also like the two from Lady & The Tramp even though they don't fit together really and the same for Snow White.

I think Robin Hood would work also but it's years since I had both extracts so I would have to see them again to be sure.

As a solo extract "Jolly Holiday" is one of my personal favourites.

My least favourite is "Duel of the Wizard's"

Steve

The "Night on Bald Mountain" copies that Derann were selling on there second hand list, for a while at least, but on arrival here looked like new to me at the time. I am pretty sure those ones were imported from Germany, both excellent picture and sound. The copy I have is faultless.

That in itself prompted me to buy the other 400footer "The Nutcracker Suite" at the time which has stunning color and excellent mono sound. I think this one also came from Germany and put on the second hand list.

Derann I am sure had a number of copies for sale of both titles for quite a while on that list...so I think good ones are still out there....somewhere [Smile]

Derann sold "Fantasia 2000" on a separate reel basis. I have part 3 which contains "Pomp and Circumstance" with Donald Duck as a harried assistant to Noah as the animals board the Ark.

The finish is with "Land and Hope and Glory" which is best run with the volume as high as you can. It gives me shivers!

"Sleeping Beauty" works as a 400 foot digest.

I've come to realize though that the Disney 200 foot extracts actually work best on their own, even when you can make sensible 400 foot digest by connecting them.

James.

Hi,

I have a soft spot for the 200ft extract of Dumbo - a lovely souvenir of the feature.
