I have some Super8 cartridges, still in box, that I acquired recently - 3 more recent Vision3 50D color negative carts and 3 somewhat older Ektachrome 100D carts. Can anyone tell me if I can determine the expiration dates of these cartridges? The left side of the box has some dot-matrix style printing on it, but nothing that looks solidly like a date. Is there a way to decode this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bob, Since it is recent stock it should be OK as long as it is still sealed in the inner foil pouches and was stored properly. You should have it in the fridge until you're ready to shoot with it. I would think the manufacturer expects it to be processed within a reasonable amount of time from purchase. If it's any guide, I bought fresh Wittnerchrome 200D in January 2013, and the expiration date printed is September 2015, about three years.

Thanks Joe. Only two of the rolls were purchased by me - the rest were gifted, and the gifted stuff (one of the negatives and all of the Ektachrome) were not stored properly prior to me. I was trying to decide whether to use them or sell them on EBay, and want the info so I can be fully honest if I do sell them. Where on your stock is the expiration date located?

Bob, On the Wittnerchrome carts the 'process by' date is printed plainly on the side of the boxes. Also that it should be stored below 46 degrees F. You should call or e-mail Dwayne's Photo. They may be able to give you some info. http://www.dwaynesphoto.com/
