Hi there all,

I know there is a lot of Star Trek available on 16mm (I'm always seeing faded copies of Spock's brain, and several LPP Plato's Stepchildren for some reason) but I was just wondering- what is out there in terms of super 8?

I'm aware of the copies produced of the First Motion Picture, as well as a couple of episodes produced by different distributors, such as yet more Spock's Brain, and The Trouble with Tribbles. I've also heard about three outtake reels from the original series.

I was just wondering if there are any more features, episodes or even digests around?

I'd be very keen on tracking down a copy of Wrath of Khan; whichever format.

Derann sold Super-8 'scope ,stereo prints of "Star Trek, Generations" full feature length.

-if money was no object I would have had one of these about 10 years ago.

-and it was a great movie too, meant to be up on the big screen.

I first saw it in the biggest auditorium at the local multiplex: opening night, full house and the crowd really got into it.

-wouldn't mind being able to experience that again at home at all!

"Is There in Truth no Beauty?" was released as a 400ft cut-down, "City on the Edge of Forever" was released as a full episode. Can't remember which company released those...

I have the full length episodes The Trouble with Tribbles, Space Seed and City on the Edge of Forever. I also have the Thunderbird 400' cutdowns of Deadly Years and Operation: Annihilate . They all have color fade. Thunderbird also put out bad quality prints of the Star Trek blooper reels.
Marketing had plans to release a 3x400' of Wrath of Kahn, however I've never seen any prints of that title.

Years ago I stumbled across a Super 8 sound digest/commercial for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. What's so fascinating about it is that there are some shots in it not seen in the feature! Pretty cool. It's about 150'

Richard, I think you'll find that 150ft reel is actually the Marketing Films International 250ft release they issued on a 400ft reel with an advert on the end for other Marketing releases. The Star Trek part runs about 12 minutes.

I have full length episodes to three of the original series: The Deadly Years, Catspaw and Let This Be Your Last Battlefield. Watched them all recently and none have any evidence of fade. 'Battlefield' has very good picture quality whilst the others are more typical of the period they were issued in the 70s. I also have trailers to all the movies except 'The Search For Spock' and the latest one which is still in the cinemas.

Marketing 1070 is a bit of a con. It's in the usual blue 400' box, inside there is a 400' spool with not a lot of film on it.

Remembering the Marketing films were printed on an ultra thin polyester film stock I would go more by running time than the ft length markers shown on a reel. [Cool]

I've a copy of Trouble with Tribbles too and although great fun, isn't the best quality; from a scratched master that looked faded already.

The Wrath of Khan 3 x 400ft version does indeed exist out there somewhere, although it was never officially realeased [Wink]

That Marketing 400ft is a con indeed. It is the pre-release promo for the film but was boxed as though it was a normal 400ft version.

It is thrown together from unfinished scenes (doors audibly grinding open from the on-set sound) without any finished score and some unfinished effects scenes.

Interesting, I suppose, but I can't help but think how disappointed you would have been at the time if you bought it thinking it was an extract.

That Marketing release of STAR TREK 400ft is a great novelty, not found anywhere else, (I have not seen it on any DVD blu-ray laserdisc or VHS anywhere!)

The actual "trailer for ST is approximately 9 minutes long, (as i had it on one 200ft reel for a long time, and it came right up to the very brim), and it originally was followed by other "teaser trailers" for other marketing releases.

I agree Rob, it was about 12 mins in length padded out with
snippets of Marketing Films releases at the time.as one reviewer
stated at the time,"unasked but paid for",very cheeky of Marketing.
The films on S/8 from the TV series are and I quote from Phil Sheards' very informative article in FFTC,
LET THIS BE YOUR LAST BATTLEFIELD,MIRI, SHORE LEAVE,GALILEO 7,CATS PAW,AMOK TIME,TOMORROW IS YESTERDAY,DAGGER OF THE MIND,MAN TRAP,MUDD'S WOMEN,THE DEADLY YEARS,SQUIRE OF GOTHOS,SPACE SEED,CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER,TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES,WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE & MENAGERIE
2 parts (which I bought from Phil). T'bird Films did release 400'
versions of ; BY ANY OTHER NAME, THE DEADLY YEARS,REQUIEM
FOR METHUSELAH,OPERATION ANNIHILATE. Marketing did do a
full feature, and there are full feature versions on S/8opt.
of Star Trek II & IV, ( there's no reason to think Star Trek III isn't out there. as are 4 blooper reels. Prints originated from Reel Images,Red Fox,Canterbury,& Thunderbird Film.My thanks to Phil Sheard for this information.

Hi there all!

Thanks for all that information! I had no idea that there was so much out there to see.

I was wondering if anyone had any screencaps of GENERATIONS that they could post?

And also, does anyone have a bit more info on that release of wrath of khan ? Are there any magnetic sound prints? Does anyone know of any prints out there?

A rarity I have that never seems to be mentioned is a one reel promo for Star Trek 4. The quality isn't great is it's video transferred to film, but the content is entertaining. I'm not sure who released but it was from an obscure USA source. I got it from a UK company called Dane Films who used to get some US imports that no one else in the UK seemed to have, near the end of when 1980s USA releases dried up.

I have a copy of the Canterbury release of Tribbles. The picture quality seems to pretty good to me, though it is nearly completely faded.

The only real issue is that the audio isn't great. At least on my print. The highest db levels start to crackle. Wouldn't mind a re-record.

I have the three x 400 ft Star Trek , the Movie. Great editing job....better than the entire film.....it was letterboxed. Alas, it has started to fade... I had it for sale at the last Cinesea meeting, but no takers. All sliced nicely on one 800 ft metal reel.
