I have just purchased some films with magnetic sound, but are on metal / aluminium spools. Would this affect the quality of the sound with regards to erasing the sound track at all, please?

Only permanent magnets like on big speakers will effect magnetic film stripe both paste and laminated. These could be erased from such objects come too close to the film track. I've not heard of any metal reel or aluminium reel erasing a film sound track, metal can become magnatised if left on a permanent magnet on say a grinding machine, but even these can be de-magged with a special tool.

No, especially so with aluminum reels since this is a non magnetic material.
I guess a steel reel could become slightly magnetized, but these fields are pretty weak compared to ones the film may experience from other stuff like a transport motor or an internal speaker, and we don't worry about those either.
I've got some films that have probably been on steel reels for 30 years and they sound fine.

Thanks very much for that. I just had this vision of waking up one day, starting the projector, volume full blast and nothing there except hiss!
