I bought a Sankyo Dualux 2000-H off Ebay and am expecting it in the mail by the end of the week. It was listed as needing a new bulb. What do folks who own this unit recommend for a good bulb?

I am finding on the Van Eck website there is a difference in lifespan - one lasting 50 hours, another lasting 600. My concern with ordering from them is the time it would take to get to South Dakota.

Another option I am considering are the Osram ones that are made in Germany.

Anywho, I'm very much looking forward to getting the projector. It took me a long time to figure out which was the right one to get, but I think I've got a winner.

Hi Tom,

Welcome!

This machine takes the code EFP lamp, which is pretty common in Super-8.

Here's a stateside place where I get mine, and I usually get Osrams:

Replacement Light Bulbs

We're fans of Van Eck here, but even they don't expect you to order light bulbs from Europe!

Plenty available on eBay in the UK from around £7 (US$9.33) if you want the "50 hour" version which might last for half that time unless treated gently. Still better value than the 8v 50w A1/17 as fitted to the Sankyo 1000 where the best price is nearly £30 delivered for a similar life span if you're careful.

Thank you for the recommendation. I have four Osrams coming in the mail from Replacement Light Bulbs. Hoping they make it here safely and each last close to 50 hours...

I've never had any problems from them.

What's nice in the times we live in is you can get in contact with sellers like this that sell in such quantities they can give you a decent price. When I first went back into film I bought my lamps at a local camera shop. They were a specialty item and it was normal to drop about $25 a pop on them. They didn't stock them either, so it meant a week's delay and a second trip back to pick them up.

-lately I buy three at a time, my car stays in the driveway and I usually have them in less than a week anyway!

I see that the vendor says the projector needs a new bulb. It might be ok as these bulbs can have a build up of oxide on the prongs which prevents contact, particularly if not used for a while. It might be worth sanding them before you change the bulb.

Had the opportunity tonight to take out the bulb it came with, rub down the contacts, and after reinstalling it lights up nice and bright. Cosmetically, this is unit is in great shape.

I see that the belt is flat in shape, and replacements are round. I'm guessing I have the original OEM belt still installed. When I bought it off Ebay it was listed as like-new barely used condition.

Are there flat belts available anywhere, or do the round belts function just the same?

About the belt issue - that really doesn't matter. The (correct size) round belt should be the same in functionality as the original v-belt. ALL of my super8 projectors had been replaced with round belt, none of them have any drive issue whatsoever. [Smile]

To go even further - those round belt is actually the correct size o-ring commonly found at any hardware store. Buy various size in bulk, still doesn't cost any serious amount. [Wink]
