I've just got hold of an Eumig 820 Sonomatic very cheaply and in excellent cosmetic condition, but there is no sound, and the 2A fuse on the amplifier board was blown on arrival. I tried another identical fuse 2A (5mm x 20mm), and it zapped immediately on turning on.

I've read as many threads as I can about similar issues on the forum, and realise there can be many causes.

However, are there any obvious or common visual physical signs I can look out for that might be causing the failure?

I will take the projector to John White in the New Year, but if there was a way to solve the problem and save a trip, any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Probably a capacitor gone down in the amplifier.

Hi martin, does the rest of the machine work ok, or does the fuse shut down the projector completely?. I have had both these on different projectors, as Maurice says a shorted cap will take out the fuse, but so will an amplifier transistor, which will draw this kind of current on switch on.

The problem with something like this is there could be so many possibilities.

-another good one is the rectifier right where the AC power comes in from the transformer. These commonly short after cooking for a couple of decades.

Yes, projector is actually running very well and quietly.

Okay, if it's a cap or transistor or rectifier, I'll have to wait to see Mr. White. I wondered if it might be a common simpler issue, but clearly not.

Thanks to all of you...
