I recently purchased the title SNF and was told the print had good color. I realize this is a selective topic, we all have different tolerances but this is not what I call good color. Green and Blue is missing completely. The only color left is red, different variants of red yet the print looks completely b&w most of the time.
I was asked what projector I was using, I replied color fade is not influenced by the projector, hence I included a picture of the projector during the screening of the print. No need to mention the sellers name that is not my intent but I wanted opinions if others consider this good color. A second print accompanied SNF that also had color fade to red. The seller knows I do not purchase anything with color fade. He said he watched the print and saw colors. A good example of color is to watch the title on youtube.

Hi Alan, I am not sure what print of Grease you have, but I do have the Derann feature length scope print and it is quite definitely a 'full spectrum' print with deep vivid colors from red to violet, and with deep blacks, high contrast and incredibly sharp. In fact it is just about the best S8 scope print I have ever seen. The screen shots of your print are vastly inferior, and certainly no reflection at all on the quality of the projector, which in your case is superb.

That aside your print of Grease sounds fantastic, a great title I am sure you cherish. I wish this print of SNF looked as good.

Regarding the print, as far I can see "its faded" and is basically in my view scrap. I have a flat version of Grease, and it looks just the same as your screen shots [Frown]

...for anyone to say it has good color is in my view misleading, to say the least.

I better watch what I say here though, after I threw out my faded 16mm scope print of Star Wars, as that seemed to upset some of the natives [Smile]

I have no ill will with the seller I plan to continue doing business, this is part of the risk when making a purchase, I always say for every ten good ones you get a bad one. I hope returning the print does not change the sellers outlook of me.

Regarding the projector thank you for the compliment Graham. This projector has been modified to accept the modified 35mm to 16/S8 film cleaner which is attached. Magnified hairs are no longer aloud to make an appearance during a screening:)

The print does have good colour,good red colour!! The film itself has a lot of dark scenes which normally have a red caste but your copy looks about the worst I've seen of this,the 200ft release seems to be a lot better for keeping it's colour so maybe try and find a copy of that.

I recently bought a 400ft release,described as LPP but a first glance showed it was faded,projected it was clearly faded and the seller still was adamant it was LPP, that went in the bin,Mark

The problem is its a marketing print. Most of the feature prints are either red or turning by now, (there are some exceptions).
we have the 3 x 400 of NF which still has a good amount of colour still. This, as we all know, was one of Marketings first batch of releases and i have yet to see any low fade prints from the first batch of there releases. [Wink]

That definitely doesn't look like good color to me. It is definitely faded.

If I am prepared to bid a lot on a dubious color print on eBay, I would usually coach a seller on how to find date codes on the film and relay that information to me.

In this case Im lucky to know the seller, the print will be return otherwise this would join your print in the bin:)

Its not THAT good, it cant fix color issue:)
By the way Paul, your mention of how good your print of Grease looks reminded me I had a copy which I have yet to watch so I dug it out and through on a reel, WOW this has to be the sharpest scope print I have seen on S8 I was really impressed. Color looked great as well. I do not know if this is a Derann print, this one has 7 400 footers.

Thanks for your input and advice Jason. I have to say Ive had good luck over the years but getting a bad one wakes you up and keeps you alert next time around.

The 7 x 400ft scope feature was a Derann release for sure.
We bought ours from Steve @ the reel image before the prices of super 8 started going north. I think at the time i paid $200, it was supplied on 2 x 1200ft spools and the best part was that it had been re-recorded into stereo by the previous owner and the sound is first class.

As for the marketing films, we only have the mean machine full feature and to date, this one has kept much of its colour. We consider ourselves lucky on this one, other titles in full feature format, Godfather, SNF, the marketing grease feature to name a few, all seem to have faded to red now.

Hi Leon, yes it is a nice machine but Ive been using my GS for my daily grind. Cant beat a good GS.
