I have a Chinon 7000M.
1) When I attached the power cord the speaker made a huge growl that sounds like a nuclear reactor just started up.
2) Front Feed Spindle is too stiff to move freely in forward direction, but better in rewind mode. Tried some White Lithium Grease, but still stiff.
Should I bin it? I’m in no manner mechanically inclined. I wouldn’t know a Jigawatt from a Flux Capacitor. Please dummy it down for me [Wink] Thanks

1.Do you mean a LOUD hum, but still functioning right? I'm suspecting aged capacitors first.
2.Would be the belt also aged up and deformed making it hard to turn too.

Just my 2 cents... [Wink]

Update... I removed the cover to the spindle arm and was able to clean off the spindle and the gunk buildup as well. Reconnected everything and “Voila” she runs. The cleaning the contacts also helped and now the only issue the sound has flutter that I can’t get rid of.
