Alright so I'm giving up hope on The Abyss. perhaps I may have some luck acquiring this one. Anyone know where I may find a copy at a reasonable price?

Please note that there actually two versions of this feature ...

The common german print, (with German titles), in scope. A nice print, on low fade stock, though the "reel change" section of the film are a little more worn in the negative, but certainly passable.

The early 80's Cineavision style scope print. The person who released this is still a bit of a mystery. I have been talking with a fellow forum member about this and he has his theories, but I won't share the name, just in case the person is still alive or wouldn't want me to, but the print quite possibly came out of the LA region.

I say "Cineavision Style", in that the original aspect ratio is perfectly preserved with the almost perfect square "window box" treatment, (instead of the black bars of the top and bottom to do a letterbox, they are on the left and right side, giving a nearly perfect square).

... which gives the actual scope image, not cutting off any of the image that was seen in the movie theaters.

Until just recently, I didn't even know that this version existed, but being that I recieved it (I was expecting a german scope), I know that it does exist.

However, please note that this was released on Kodak SP which, depending on how it was stored, will have or will in the future, fade. The print I received is near perfect, (daytime shots are spot on, the blacks of space have the slightest tint of brown, but definitely not bad at all for a thirty year old KOdak SP!). The imgae quality is very good.

However, it is my guess that this print is exceedingly rare and may have been a "request only" print.

Here is a link to the completed auction:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-Wars-Empire-Strikes-Back-Scope-German-titles-English-Soundtrack-/330652344310?pt=UK_DVD_Film_TV_OtherFormats_GL&hash=item4cfc6a5ff6

It says "Empire Strikes Back * Scope * German titles English Soundtrack"

I had a print as Osi mentioned, although, I'm not sure if it is the same, but it is sub-standard to the German version. However, there was a problem with the sound and I had Lance re-record it and now has great sound. I thought it might have been the track but not so.

Also to add ...

The "Cineavision" style scope Empire was printed just a little dark, in my opinion, but I'm certainly happy to have it.
