Hello guys! I am new here, I don't want it to seem like I have registered here just for the wanted section! I recently started shooting super 8 movies (and develop E6 at home with superb results), super 8 is the medium in which I am going to keep my history, as my grandad did from 1964 until 1981! He inspired me [Embarrassed]

The quality is stunning, as is the DOF and the 'lifelike' look, I notice many DV and videotape cameras lack DOF and I only noticed this when I began shooting it and my Grandads ones! If one thanks about t though, the actual light rays from the scene made the change to the film, more so with reversal film so when projected it looks so real! I also impressed my college tutors with one!

But onto topic, I have recently acquired a good sound projector, an EUMIG S932 with 800ft reel capacity. For all my silent stuff I use my prinz magnon projector, simple, gentle on the film, and light to carry around.

I managed to secure a print of the devil rides out, am still waiting on it. (The full movie, not the condensed version), I have never watched the film before in any form, so this will be good)

I am curious to know who has any feature length films the are willing to part with n the UK, eBay yields very very little on this matter!

The ones I am most interested in are: sci fi, action and drama thrillers, horror as well.

I heard you can even get alien by ridley Scott on super 8, but it s hard to come by and costs! (Although if I could, I would for sure)

Ones in particular are alien, night of the living dead, day of the dead (1985, possible?), strange encounters of the third kind (which I haven't watched), and pinnochio (full length), and bugsy Malone.

For Alien, I would be willing to settle for a condensed version but that is hard to find too!

Any other horrors/thrillers/scifi/drama that anyone may have and would be willing to sell, please list what you have for sale! Please give me a price you would want for it, I understand prints of full length films are not cheap, some costing £40 others in the region of £200 and RARE ones (like starwars, was on two 1,200 ft reels I saw go for over a grand!

I buy with the intention of viewing and showing, not keeping them in a box unused [Smile] night of the living dead is I think one ofthe higher ones on my priority list.

Please have a list of any feature films you may have for sale [Smile]

I hope you are all well,
Jacob

Thanks guys [Smile] I only got into film photography last year, set up my own darkroom after I moved out then dabbled in super-8 recently,I love it! I know that what I record on film (and you can sum up your whole day in 3:20; ever seen family videotapes with like 20 minutes of people eating on them? One would only depress the trigger when the moment s worth it! Even though it is a small gauge it can record plenty of detail if exposed and processed right, although I gently uncoil it into a lightproof tank, but it does the job and looks as good as a lab processed one, saves a hell of alot of money, too [Smile] my prinz projector which was my first and one of two is built like a tank!

I gt interested when me and my grandad decided to have a showing of ALL 100+ reels of his super 8 film to the whole family, all my cousins, aunts and nucleus the lot, this was back in 2009, a 10-hour sitting with little breaks, but I had warned everyone as we did not let my grandads projector cool (I was the projectionist, lol and the all badgered me to put on the next one and only the odd tea break, we ended up having a large teapot! and biscuits)! that the lamp could have burned out, but it did not! I carry a spare, personally. Some were 400ft reels some were 50. From when they lived in South Africa, to the middle east, to the USA in Miami, the gulf of Oman, after they moved back the UK, the lot, my family have been across the world, literally!

Sorry this goes off topic, but that is the history [Smile] my grandad used kodachrome, looks as good as on the day he shot it he told me! I missed my chance, unfortunately to try kodachrome! I ensure my ektachrome gets a good bath in stabilizer to ensure it doesn't fade!If I could afford 16mm I would dabble in that (super 8 and b/w and colour film and prints are my main history keepers now)! But super 8 I prefer, because it can be easily and cheaply home processed, and I like the feeling of having done the whole movie making process from start to finish, plus the cost savings! My camera is a chinnon 671, it is a nice camera [Smile]

I am exited about getting prints of full movies, nothing beats watching REAL film!
I have taken a look at them links, have been on the bfcc site! Search engines never showed me that existed [Embarrassed]
Another one I would like to add to my wanted Iist by the way is if available, return of the living dead 1 or 2 if it was ever released on super 8!

Welcome to the fold Jake!

Your excitement is bubbling over! I want to load my camera and shoot something! You make a great point about when shooting film you must "think" about what you are going to shoot to make 3 mins interesting. Good luck in your search for the films your looking for...

This is a very rewarding hobby...when ever you find a print of something you have been searching for it's always a thrill feeding it into the projector!

Welcome Jake, I too hope you find the prints you are searching though Horror quality prints are a much sought after genre amongst collectors and always tend to fetch higher than average prices. What I am sure you will find along your journey with this wonderful hobby of ours, is what you once considered a lot of money for thoses special prints you have been searching a while for soon seems like a trivial amount after 6 months of buying new features! Bill is absolutely dead right regarding the thrill of first projecting and getting your hands on that much sought after film. In fact thats what makes it special! After all we can all buy pretty much any DVD we want for a fiver or a tenner but we dont end up usually with hundreds or thousands of them because there is nothing SPECIAL about them!

Welcome Jake! First let me express my admiration for you for processing your own color film- not many people are doing that nowdays. As the previous posters have said, there are stacks of super 8 feature films out there on the market. Buy from dealers listed above, or from people on this forum, and you will not be disappointed. Good to have you with us all who enjoy this amazing hobby!

Jake- I want to recommend a great book about the early days of filmmaking, around 1915. DW Griffith had his own 'lab', people dedicated to the finest processing of all of Griffith's films. The guy who wrote the book was Billy Bitzers assistant, a 16 year old boy named Karl Brown. He worked through all of the great films. He wrote 'Adventures with DW Griffith' in the early 70's. Brown goes into detail about the processing, the characters who did the processing, the camera work and the film stocks used. It is detailed and you might pick up some pointers for your lab. As you can tell, I dig this book and dig it that you are processing film now. Do you have access to black and white film Super 8?

Yes, i have access to B/W super 8, although i have only ever shot one roll of that at the moment, have plans to do more : - )
Have just bought a condensed digest of Aliens from Pasquale DAlessio and I am looking forward to seeing it [Smile] I plan to get full length wherever i can, but as I am just starting out, this is a good start : - ). If anyone happens to have the digest version of alien (the first), also I would be happy to buy it, so i have the pair of digest ones, then i can set my sights a bit higher for the full-length ones. Digest ones would be handy if i say wanted to watch a quick movie before setting off for college over breakfast [Smile] night of the living dead, Day Of The Dead (1985), and return of the living dead i will keep hunting, they are ones i really am interested in (if return of the living dead 1 & 2 exists on super 8)
Many people i know think i was born into the wrong era haha ;D

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone on this forum [Smile]

I think what you got from Pat will be Alien...not Aliens.

AFAIK Aliens never been released as a digest.

This is the picture of your incoming film:

 -

BTW, since you just started are you aware that most pre-packed film would be fade. SO it is not like your Grandad's Kodachrome, you are mostly going to see red hue. Only certain films released after 1980 will have good color.

cheers,

Hmm it said aliens in the PM, but it wont matter, having alien will be just as good =D
And yeah I am aware of prints fading, kodachrome was unique, and for the others the dyes were sometimes unstable or labs would skip the formaldehyde treatment step, which is crucial!

Hi Jake, As far as I know the only "Living Dead" movies you mentioned that are on super 8 are the Romero "Night" full length, and "Dawn" 3X400' UFA cut-down(German language sound), and a full length of the "European" cut from Italy (Italian language sound). No "Day of the Dead" or "Return of"....

Jake Bugsy Malone is an excellent choice. [Smile]
Classic Home Cinema had the optical feature in just a few weeks ago so it might be worth ringing Phil to see if he still has it as it was a very low clearance price which is good news when you are starting out.

I wasn't sure if day of the dead r return of the living dead had even touched super 8, but it was worth asking!

The bugsy Malone I am going to look into :-) I only watched it once when i was in school in year 7 in drama once but really liked it,

I ordered a 400 cut down of 'coma' from rake enterprises, after paying the invoice my address suddenly changed to my old one in the drop down, so it's showing as the delevery address! I am panicking now but sent an email with my correct address mentioning the mistake, and left an answerphone message, I hope it gets there in time D: I got it for a good price too [Smile]

An interesting point Jake is that, if I'm not mistaken, Lee had a part in this landmark film.

Jake - a belated welcome to the forum. I must say that you represent exactly the sort of 'new blood' the film collecting community needs! If you don't mind travelling, you might like to consider coming to the big conventions coming up in London (Oct 27) and Blackpool (Nov 17-18), as they offer great opportunities to meet fellow enthusiasts, as well as seeing film shos and picking up bargains. Don't expect to find sought-after horror features, though!

Incidentally, if you like Hammer, Classic Home Cinema offer new prints of the 2007 BFI restoration trailer for the 1958 'Dracula'.
