Just wondering if this might be worth investigating for Standard 8 sound. What does everyone reckon?

David, that's a great machine. Eumig really knew how to make 8mm sound machine right (even the dual gauge).

I'm seriously thinking about going for this one, as then I can purchase some early Standard 8 sound documentaries which I've seen listed.

The only trouble is, is that having "asked seller a question" about the cosmetic and mechanical condition in detail, he tells me that the Eumig badge is missing. Am I being too pedantic or behaving like an "anorak", as I really like everything to be pristine and 'as new'?

If I do go for it, I don't know where I'm going to put it. Have to do some more ruthless clearing out, I guess.

If this machine is rare, it probably represents good value for money, in which case - does anyone have a spare badge, or know where I could get one?

Lastly, check this one out. It's the same as mine. Didn't think there was another! Highly recommended as a Rolls Royce of a Standard 8 silent machine. ENGINEERING PERFECTION!

David,

There is another one up for auction. It is not in working condition and listed for spares only. I'll probably put in bid for that one (to get my old Mark-S back in working condition). If I win it, you can have the badge....

Best,

- Rob

See what I mean about "being in love" with this Forum? (See post on the BFCC).

Many thanks for the offer, Rob. Here's hoping we both win! If so, I'd be delighted to accept.

Well, yes - and no! Better than not having a badge at all, isn't it?? - or is it??

Or do you reckon I should hold out for one that is really mint, Tony, never been used, stored in a temperature controlled environment, whose owner doesn't even know he's got it, and will never come up for sale? [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

It'd be like the proverbial blind man, looking in a dark room, for a black hat, that isn't there!!

Rob,

I see you've put a bid on my badge; so I thought I'd better put a bid on the projector to go with it! [Roll Eyes]

Well, Rob, now that the auction for the "Eumig Mark S for spares" has closed, I am guessing that you were the winning bidder. I only ever saw one bid on it anyway, so I hoped and assumed it was you.

The badgeless machine should be with me during the week, so I'll let you know how she runs. If it's bad, I see there's another one on eBay now, so there might be a sporting chance of eventually getting something worthwhile, - as long as Tony doesn't start taking the p..s again!!!!! [Eek!] [Big Grin]

Cheers,

Dave.

Hi David,

Yes, for the very reasonable sum of £3 (+ a lot more for shipping...) I can call myself the proud owner of a second Mark-S. Very pleased. I just sent an email to the seller. I'll let you know when it arrives (and you're just around the corner from me).

Hi Rob.

Well done! Will you try to renovate this one or actually use it for spares?

I just heard from the seller of mine, and it has already been despatched and should be here tomorrow. If so, that will give me a chance to see how good (or bad) it is. Then I should have sufficient time to place a bid on the other one before the auction ends, if I think it's necessary. Thereby, like your goodself, having the ability to end up with one splendid machine.

We'll keep in touch over this.

Best,

Dave.
