Check with Jon Addams in NY. He is a member of this forum. He has 3 with bad belts.

Hi Jon:

I've got a PS-1000 that's mechanically OK, but no audio. I'm thinking of swapping out the electronics, if that's feasible. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

Pete

PS-thanks Pat

Anything is feasible Pete but the Canon 1000 is a complicated machine to work on - I have three of them in perfect working condition except they all need belts. I gave up on them because of the extreme difficulty in installing those belts.

If you can install the belts it may be a better idea to buy one of mine, install the belts in it and you will have an excellent working machine. Of course you can always use the mine to repair yours if you want to go that route.

Best,

Jon

Thanks Jon. I'm not sure what I want to do. The machine is compact and I don't have a service manual. I'm not ready to tackle rebelting. I would have tinkered with my electronics but I sold all my test equipment several years ago. I might be better off just junking it and buying another projector that's easiere to service. Any ideas/suggestions?

I'm not a big time hobbyist. I took over 3k feet of film years ago when my kids were young and I want to edit and splice it onto 7" reels in preparation for telecine transfer.

Peter...are your home movies sound? Maybe you could just use an editor/viewer to put your films together to get them ready for transfer.

Hello Richard,

Thank you very much for the offer, I appreciate it. It is a good price.

However, after checking out the total cost per machine, it doesn’t pay for me. These projectors are in perfect working condition, clean throughout and don’t need any service.

In essence, I will be paying $115 per machine for a belt change, that is $75 per for your service plus $40 for shipping in both directions. When I add the cost of the belts, $51.67 plus $4.95 shipping I come to a total of $172.62.

Actually I find your price of $75 per machine the only bargain in the deal as I find it very attractive.

I work on most of my machines but I don’t feel like tackling the Canon PS-1000 as I find the belting system so complex that I am sure most people that bought this machine had no way of changing the belts when they went bad and most likely dumped the units when they attempted to change the belts.

I used these projectors until the belts went bad. I am giving up on them and I will list them on eBay for $70 for parts or repair and I will offer them to forum members for $50 plus exact shipping.

On a side note, I have many projectors in need of repairs and perhaps we can talk about some of those. I simply don’t have the time to work on them myself and as time is money I have no problems farming them out.

I have so many projectors that I am thinking on disassembling some of them and selling the individual parts on my website.

So Richard, if you are interested in talking more about this you can send me a PM or contact me at jaddams55 at Hotmail dot com.

Again, thank you for the offer.

Regards,

Jon

Many machines do actually have tricks to open their parts and sometimes with special tools that only their servicemen have it. This was done to only they can repair it. Special tools that I meant can actualy apeculiar screw driver, bolt or nuts.

I just knew that to change the main belt at ST 1200, I don't need to open the rear gear (that goes to rear spool arm), but need only to loose the spring before that gear.

I wish we can open a special sticky thread only for those kind of tricks. It can be from a simple one like changing the bulb to the most advance one like changing the blade shutter.

Anyone want to volunteer....? a Youtube video instruction will help much the laymen.

I will try to post my own when I change my next belt which I plan in two weeks from now.
