Have been collecting in 16mm again and just wondered if anyone knows if Blackhawk ever printed on Gevaert stock or only Eastman, Kodak. The inference is that if you have print that is not on these two stock choices, then you must have a dupe of a b'hawk print. True or false?

Great question! I can't wait for the answer. Then I'll go check all my BH prints to verify if they're the genuine articles.

I'm pretty sure I've seen blackhawk prints on all sorts of stock... But IIRC, Eastman is the most common... Kodak would be unlikely because it was discontinued (actually renamed to Eastman) in the early 1960s.

Blackhawk was printing in the 50's -- I have some on Kodak stock.

I just check a half dozen O.G. 16mm prints I can get at and they were all Eastman.

been looking through my L&H prints - most are eastman but some are agfa gaevert and it is so difficult to judge - county hospital is on agfa and is gorgeous, night owls is on eastman - a bit dark. I know so many factors are at play here, labs, pre-print material, etc. but I would like a collection that is as good as i can obtain....wish I had some definitive answers...

I have Blackhawks on Agfa stock as well that look great.

For L&H, many prefer non-Blackhawk prints. A Film Classics print from the 50's or earlier, on Agfa or Kodak, will generally look excellent and maybe a bit better than a Blackhawk. But once you get past the white-on-black titles, BH L&H prints can be excellent.
In some case I've gone through several prints and the BH turned out to be the best. Keep in mind that BH changed negatives several times with the L&H titles -- the earlier printings from Film Classics negs that some people have accused of being dupes. My BH THEM THAR HILLS, however, has FC titles and it is definitely a top-quality original that looks better than an older FC print that I had.

I've no Blackhawk prints in 16mm, and didn't keep detailed enough notes on ones borrowed in the past.

However, in either 8mm guage, sound or silent, present or past articles in my library included or includes 16 Blackhawk prints on Eastman film, one with illegible markings, and one on Agfa (WC Fields "Dentist").

I can't speak for the 16MM prints, but I know a number of the cartoons Blackhawk put out on Super 8, in the early 80's were on Kodak SP and later, on Eastman L.P.P.

I have some Blackhawk Prints on estar stock which is marked on their original boxes.

There was an incident during the mid 70's and I believe it was due to the issue with the silver market? Film stock was difficult to obtain and
during that period, Blackhawk also printed on 3M stock.

Customers were alerted to these changes in the sales bulletin.
