Firstly, an Elf M-3. This is the older machine with the separate motor/lamp switches, instead of the rotary switch as found on newer machines. It's take take-up...I cannot get the reel to effectively take up a full 1600' of film without stopping before the end. I've renwed the belt, cleaned all pulleys, renewed the cork lining on the pulley on the end of the arm, even cleaned up the clutch mechanism inside the machine!
Secondly, an NT1. Perfect on most film, but the odd print makes the loop restorer operate almost continually. This same such print would then be perfect in another machine! Why?
I don't have either of the models you mention but I had a similar problem with take-up and an RM-1.
1600ft reels were stopping before the end, with the resultant film pile-up on the floor if I didn't catch it in time. I did all that you mentioned but still had a problem. Somebody ( I don't remember who??) suggested trying a 2000ft reel. I did and I had no problem with take-up. Again, I tried a 1600 and the problem was back. I now use only the larger reels for take-up. Funny enough I can use a smaller reel - 800ft - and there's no problem. It's just with the 1600's. I can't explain it, but the person who suggested the larger reel in the first place suggested it was related to the weight distribution of the reels or some such. Anyway it works. Maybe this will be of help to you, maybe not!!
