another challenge: I was playing a film on The Eiki sl 0 projector about 30 min into the show I hear a loud clicking so often from the projector. then while attempting to rewind it I hear a screech and the rewinding stops dead. any idea what the problem is? the motor and take up arm is new could it be sync motor belt? I have not replaced this

Im losing my patience with this projector.

It may be a few items like a Drive Gear,Upper Gear Assy,
Drive Gear Assy Worm Gear
They may be cracked.
Lack of lubercation, or a belt
On which would stop a projector
These are pictured on my web site

What do I need to look for? Should I first replace the sync belt?

I believe you said you got the projector for free, if so, perhaps the original owner knew there was much to do on it.
I hope that you can persevere with your work on the Eiki and not give up too soon, but it must be upsetting to have your continual problems.
Why not sell it for spares and perhaps recoup some of what you have spent on it?

If I was in the USA, I'd consider sending it it to Richard. I'm sure it will come back as good as new and any costs involved will be outweighed by saving a lot of stress!

The takeup arm is a pain in the butt. I put a new belt on and it still does not work, keeps slipping.funny thing is the smooth part on the inside works somewhat better but not perfect.

If I wanted to.send it to Richard,Shipping both ways would probably be 100 dollars. Might as well buy a projector off ebay

Brian,
Do yourself a favor and get rid of that machine. Find yourself a good EIKI NT-0 or an EIKI RT-0. I have both and they are really great smooth running machines and built solid to last a lifetime.

Ebay has many to choose from. Get your belts from Richard he offers the genuine EIKI Belts and they are the very best!
Good luck,
RS

Brian
I agree with what Roger says, you have spent a lot of time on the Eiki, why not sell it for spares and buy a projector which is known to work.

Eiki is on its way to a new home. Shipped it out today. I got it for free and was able to recoup the price of the parts I put into it.

Good riddance I found out the thing scratched two of my films, not expensive ones
