What a good price to pay for a 1600 or 2000 ft split reel? Where's a good place to buy a used one.

Do you really need them?

They rarely turn up on the second-hand market and when they do they are very expensive.

If only taking off from a core you could stuff newspaper into the core and make a small hole in the paper for the rewind spindle. Then hold your left hand over the top of the film as you slowly wind onto an ordinary spool with your right hand.

This would not really work if you intend to transfer from a spool onto a core as it needs a keyhole to engage in.
