Any one PLEASE help,
I have two Rank Aldis 16mm Projectors.
Can anyone tell me what grease to use in the reservoir, I`ve tried oil, to thin. At the moment I`m using Car-lube Silicone Multi-purpose grease, is this OK. or is there a better product to do, the job, one of you with a Bayer, must know the answer?
Thanks.

James, I'm sure someone will have an answer but you could ring Kevin Brown at K.B. Electronics. There isn't much he doesn't know about projectors. 0115 9113125

Hi Dave,
Thanks, Kevin gave me the answer, It`s a wick that lubricates the
drive shaft, so puzzle solved.

Glad you got the problem sorted. Kevin is a real gem. I had a Rank Aldis or some years but had continual sound problems not helped by incompetent dealers doing repairs. Eventually the main belt broke and a dealer put an elastic band on it that lasted one showing. Machine was returned and came back unable to run silent prints. The 'new belt' again lasted one showing. A friend, who used to look after 400 machines for the Methodist church kindly took the projector but couldn't find the correct belt anywhere due to the number of different models produced. Back to Bell & Howell!!

Your belt problem shouldn't have been unsurmountable, the Rank Aldis is a Bauer.
If the serial number commences with a 7 (as most do) it is a Bauer P7.

Maurice, I gave the projector to my friend who used to service 400 of them for The methodist Church. He told me that he just couldn't find the right belt. After 5 years searching he actually dumped the machine but by then I'd got two B/H's working beautifully. To be honest I found the Rank Aldis/Bauer rather unreliable on the sound side. It let me down several times which no other projector I've owned ever did. I had the R/A from new so it wasn't past it's sell by date!!

it is not serial number commences with a 7 it is device number.
It has nothing exclusive with Bauer P7.
Bauer P6, P7, P8 and 8mm Projectors from Bauer as well as other devices commenence with a 7.
Serial number is after "Nr.", it commences with 3 numbers - and further numbers, for example 821-45679.
All Rank Aldis I have seen so far were modified Bauer P6.
I´m not shure whether they also modified Bauer P7.

Rank Aldis, Bauer P6, Bauer P7 use same flat rubber belt. (Not for synchronous machines) Those belts are still available from several well known sources.

Production of Rank Aldis / Bauer P6 started in 60s last century.
Therefore electronic defects will occur more often compared to later production dates (P7, P8).
Bauer´s basically are not unreliable.

regards
Josef
