I'm trying to get an old Bell and Howell TQ1 655 working again (after many decades of sitting in a shed). I've cleaned it (a lot) and changed the socket from a bizarre 5-pin thing to a 3-pin. I then powered it up for the first time yesterday. It came to life straight off, remarkably. One of the drive belts has slipped, which I need to remedy at some point, but the motor seems fine.
The biggest issue that I can spot so far is that projection bulb is clearly past it. It's gone all crusty and won't glow at all, despite the filament being intact inside the glass. It obviously needs replacing. What's the best replacement to go for? I see there are a few options online. In an ideal world, it would be nice to get something that has an in-built reflector dish, as the existing one is cracked and will probably smash at some point, if I don't get there first.
Another thing I'm going to have to check is the worm-gear. I've seen a few videos online regarding this and it's obviously a common area to find a fault. Mind you, I'm putting this off for the time being as (rather embarrassingly) I don't seem to be able to locate where the blasted thing sits in the housing. And until I can find it, I can't very well check it. I suspect that it might be lurking behind an additional gear assembly that I believe to have something to do with the animation function.
Anyway, any advice (especially on the bulb and gear) would be very welcome. Never done any work on a 16mm machine before, having only ever used super 8 and standard 8 in the past. So, feeling my way a tad here.
