I am new to this forum. On browsing it I found good information about the Ampro Stylist that I have. But I still have a couple of questions.
1) I have tried to rewind a film by pressing the rewind button on the back of the projector. But the reel direction did not change and the film wound backwards. Does one have to hold the button or is there possibly something stuck inside the projector?
2) The projector has a "Manual Adjusting Knob" or "Hand-test Knob" on the back. The one manual that I found says, "Rotate the Manual Adjusting Knob so that the top surface of the knob is turned toward the screen". But I cannot identify the "top surface". So what does this direction mean?

1) I assume the spring belts are correctly positioned?
2) This just refers to a manual check of the threading by advancing the film to make sure everything is correctly threaded. The odd phrasing means to turn the inching knob the correct way!

1) Well the belts a positioned correctly to run the film. Does their position have to change to rewind?
2) Got it thanks. I was not thinking that way.

There is a steel lever on one of the reel arms that has to be thrown over for rewind. This moves the spring belt to allow rewinding. From memory I think it is on the lower spool arm, but if I am wrong someone on here will correct me. There is also a Bakelite button on top of the projector that has to e depressed for rewinding.

The clutch knob needs to be pushed in after the motor has been started.
The belt shifter on the take-up spool pulley needs to be set to its maximum clockwise position after about 150ft of film has been rewound.
If the rewind hasn't been used for many years it is possible it is now not engaging due to dried up grease preventing its movement.

The belt to the upper reel pulley must be twisted 180 degrees and the lower reel pulley must be thrown as others mentioned.

P.S. I am really getting tired of the "flood protection" message.

Thanks, twisting the belt to the upper reel I think will do the job. (The motor drive belt broke so I am waiting for a replacement to test.)
I got the projector with the upper belt not twisted and it projected but would not rewind correctly.
So what I understand is that to project a film it is the lower drive belt that runs the film. To rewind the rewind button engages the upper drive belt to pull the film. So the upper belt twist only affects rewinding.

If you refer to the illustration in the instruction book on rewinding you will see how the top belt is twisted.
Also, don't forget to move the take-up belt to the adjacent pulley when rewinding. Also as mentioned.

Correct Fred. While projecting, the upper reel (feed) is free to turn as the film is pulled thru the projector. The lower reel (take-up) is engaged and turns to take up the film. When rewinding, throwing the lever on the lower reel frees it to spin in reverse. By pushing in the rewind knob on the back of the projector, the gears for the top reel are engaged to spin the upper reel for rewinding.

The drive belt on the Stylist can be changed without removing the governor which is required on the Premier models. You'll need a a screw driver to hold the tensioner roller back as you position the belt.
