Anyone out there who speaks German? I got a package returned to me that went to Germany with a sticker on it that says
"sendung ist von der deutschen post nicht dem empfänger, sondern dem zollamt zu Übergeben"

I put that into an automatic translator and got this in English - "transmission is from the German post office not the receiver, but the customs office to handing over"

The translation makes only slightly more sense than the German.

Can anyone give me a better translation?

The "deutsche post" has to deliver the parcel/mailing to the customs office and not to the receiver/addressee.

In other words: Your parcel went to the customs office, the addressee got a letter to pick up the parcel at the customs (and to pay some import taxes,... unless (s)he manages to proof that the item is a gift or worth less than 150EUR (or something like that))... but the addressee didn't went to the customs for two or three weeks, hence they've returned the parcel.
This is the standard procedure when the customs declaration on the parcel is missing, incorrect or leads to the assumption that someone wants to bypass the customs...

The package had a correct customs declaration on it, so I have no idea what the problem was.

I sent an email to the buyer and I'll see what he wants me to do...

... I didn't say that you made a mistake with the declaration - sometimes the customs just can't believe the stated price/value.
This happens quite often with parcels from the US, especially when the declaration contains DVDs or computers/computer-parts.
In other words: To me it looks like the buyer caused the problem by not picking up the parcel at the customs in time.
