Thanks Michael It was a most interesting project and one that I could not have done without help, although I managed most of the work myself, getting the sound working out of the old Fisher sound head, "you can just see in the photo", was critical, luckly I had help from a chap who was very clued up on sound systems he fitted a new photo electric cell, plus he very kindly donated an old and very large power supply for the exciter lamp, he also made the pre-amp, there was no guarantee that any of this was going to work.
I spent a lot of time alinging the lamp in the exact same position where the carbon arcs used to be. The big plus was being able to adjust the 8 inch mirror in relation to the lamp and getting the light to concentrate towards the gate, the end result was excellent. All the work payed off when we ran the projector for the first time with both picture and sound. I just couldn't believe it, here was this old projector from the 1920s giving me a bright, rock steady pin sharp picture, plus sound quality that I have never heard from Super8 or 16mm, although only mono sounded great. Its a great thrill threading and running the old projector.
Regards Graham
