Just recovering from attending the Burnley Film Festival which took place yesterday. (17~3~07) This film fest has been going since the 70s and I used to project the cine film entries up until the video scene commenced. Now redundant I have the pleasure of being able to sit in the audience and enjoy the entries to the festival most of which are made on DV, and later edited on the computer timeline.
This year the near 10ft screen displayed 12 entries from video clubs around the North West, and these were judged by Michael and Linda Gough. Our local club here entered a film which was about the building of a new cinema multiplex and although it didn’t win, the judges did commend it which was nice.
The winning films were as follows. Best Overall Picking Up the Pieces by Rochdale Movie Makers. A good drama movie.
Sound Award Images of Ireland by Burnley Camcorder Club
Millennium Trophy Dance by Preston Movie Makers
The festival takes the form of a guest speaker in the afternoon in the shape of Michael Gough. A buffet followed by the festival programme. We left the event at 9.30pm having had a very full day and enjoyed every moment. I did ask if they had sold all the tickets, and this was confirmed as a complete sell out.
