I've just watched the Region 2 DVD of "Hannie Caulder" to compare it to my Walton scope feature, well firstly you realise what a wonderful job Walton did in editing out about 8 minutes (at a guess), and how well their print measures up to the DVD. Admittedly the colours on the DVD are slightly better, but where my scope print has it over the DVD is that after the main credits it switches from a 2:35/1 image to about 1:85/1 until the very end credits, why this was done I do not know, which is strange when you realise this is an Anchor Bay (UK) release, and they usually release their DVD's as near correct as possible. The print used was quite good, just the odd line here and there (one thing strange are the titles, they are in Italian?). Perhaps as this was a budget release not too much work has gone into the DVD, shame really as this is one of my favourite Westerns, as it has viscious moments, combined with some fine comedic moments between the Clemens brothers played by Ernest Borgnine, Strother Martin & jack Elam. The gorgeous Raquel Welch in nothing but a blanket for much of the movie also helps. I often run my 8mm print, and was interested in what was missing from it, well not a lot, nothing of importance to the storyline anyway. This pops up on 8mm lists quite regularly, flat and scope, and is worth looking out for, as the colours of this Walton release are as strong today as when first released on most prints I've come accross.

I like this film too even if the critics didn't.
It looks much better in scope and remains the only film I have ever bought soley on seeing the trailer released by Walton.
Barry, you are right about the dvd version, shame about the format change. It's not even titled 'Hannie Caulder' but 'Un Colt Pour 3 Salopards', which I think is French (J-M will know!)
With regard to the editing of the 8mm version, Walton were helped by reducing the fairly lengthy opening and end credits.

Cine Magenetics print in scope I have. Do like the film andthink that the favourites of mine are the Christopher lee gunmaker and the Robert Culp part. Iallways thought that culp was a great actor and his death in this film allways brought a tear to the eye after all he haD done. Walton have done a fantastic edit of this film and it's not a great running time even on the full cut. I had hoped that maybe a longer version was available on the DVD but alas the release on dvd is not that inspiring and I willl stick with the 8mm Version.
