Although I am not a great user of the internet its amazing what is out there, and how the world has become a smaller place because of it. Today out of curiosity I checked out on "Google" my old public grammer school, well after 360 years they decided to build a new one the third to be built, even had photos of the new classrooms etc, schooling has come a long way since I was there a big improvement, gone are the days of corporal punishment "thank goodness" it was still in effect when I attended.
The internet has changed how we look for infomation and it reminded me a little bit of a film I watched lately "Around The World In 80 Days" 1956 with David Niven and a superb all star cast that took you on a journey to far away places most of us would never see back them in 1957 but on the big screen. One particular section of the film has the "Todd-AO" camera mounted on front of the steam train as it slowly makes its way through the Indian countryside, beautifully shot, the film makers really tried to capture the look of the country its almost like a travelogue. It was interesting for me to watch it as my father had often talked about it as he had spent most of the war in India and Burma and always praised the country and its people, he also held in very high regard the american pilots that kept them supplied.
One amusing part of the movie is crossing america by train "was it really like that?" I picked out Buster Keaton as the conductor. The music was brilliant each piece switching from the indians to the cavalry and back again, very well done if you get a chance to watch it on dvd its really good, well what happend to the internet never mind its the "Yak" section.
Graham.
