As a fan of musicals I'm wearing a black arm-band today.
I've just heard on the radio that Cyd Charisse died in Los Angeles yesterday, June 17th, at the age of 87. She died apparently of a heart attack.
Born March 8th 1921 as Tula Ellce Finklea, she featured in many films, especially the MGM musicals. I can always see her long legs as she wore that delightful green costume in the "Gotta Dance" sequence in "Singin' In The Rain."
As Halliwell says, she missed the lead in "Easter Parade" when she broke her leg, and in "An American In Paris" when she was pregnant.

Maurice,
One of the absolute great sexy bauties of the screen, and I am so sad to learn of her passing. I enjoyed her in all the films she did, and my goal is to get a complete feature with her in 16mm. Good God, with the camera dolly moving back to show her legs and then the dance sequence. If one dosent' feel anything from that, then i'd say you probably don't like film much.
A gorgeous woman. She gave us a lot, and she deserves all our memories and our respect.
Claus.

BBC Televisiion's "Breakfast" programme has just done a tribute. The very first film excerpt was that fabulous green costume!
They said that she was tought ballet as a child to strengthen her legs.
They also said that each of her legs was insured for a million dollars.
