So, I've burned my video from my PC to a DVD-R. It'll play fine on a PC but won't play on my DVD player. My DVD player is about 8yrs old but usually has no problem with DVD-R.

What might I be doing wrong?

Hi Michael
I assume you have converted the file using a suitable program?

If you've simply burned a DVD-ROM of the video file, then a DVD player will reject it because it's a "computer" disc. You need a DVD-making program (I use Adobe Encore which comes bundled with Premiere) to transcode the video to DVD-compliant MPEG-2, then prepare that data as part of a video-DVD disc. Doing so ensures both the correct file structures as well as the disc having the correct flag to be recognized as a video DVD. (Data discs have a different flag -- you can burn a perfect video-DVD to a disc with the data flag instead of video flag and most dVD players will still reject it. Using video software pretty much corrects this, it's transparent to the user so far as I've ever seen.)

Forgive me if that's old news to you as I'm not aware of the history of your project. But good success to you!

Hi,

DVD-Rs differ (as there are DVD-Rs suitable for 1x, 2x, ... 24x, ... burning speed and as there are differences between brands, ...). And there are more obstacles, e.g. some DVD-players refuse to play DVDs that aren't finalised, ... . So it heavily depends on how you created that DVD.

Thanks fellas.
The video is stored as an avi file on my PC. I created it using Cyberlink PowerDirector. I simply burned this to a 16x DVD-R. It's going to a TV station, so I guess they'll be able to use it in this form, right?
