Well folks I cant believe its 30 years since we went to the movies and watched E.T. [Eek!] It was a huge hit when it came out, sadly the wonderfull large old cinema upstairs "circle" and downstairs "stalls" where it ran has long gone. I remember my wife taking the tissues along and out they came when E.T. died, the three times we went to see it, even after 30 years its still an enjoyable movie to watch.

The other night we ran the 2002 re-release 35mm print, what a difference to only watching it on dvd. It was great to run this "20 year" old print "using the platter" of a "30 year" old film through a "85 year" old projector with dolby digital sound. [Cool]

Keep those stories and pics coming! Steven Speilberg always said he wanted his movies to be like Walt Disney's films..."ttimeless classics". I think he acheved that more than once. E.T. is a perfect example of that. by the way..where do you get these prints you are running? Are they part of your collection? And, when we going to get the video?

I dont have many 35mm prints, some I borrow and some fell of a back of a truck [Wink] I am after a copy of Super8 the movie on film, but unfortunatly the film company wanted them all back [Frown] drat.

As for the video..I better got a move on and "do it" [Smile]

Graham.

PS. Pat I should add that most 35mm prints do go back to the film company. One small country cinema that closed recently, rather than having the cost of sending the prints back dumped the lot in a landfill. There is not a lot of interest in 35mm and with the switch to video presentation at cinemas there is little value now for film projectors etc as a lot of it is being thrown out. In hanging onto some prints and doing the odd run through the projector it keeps film projection alive.

Such a waste to "throw them out". [Frown]

Graham,

I am always impressed when reading your posts, and that Ernemann just kills me [Smile] 85 years and cooking....and now with Dolby.

Keep up the good work!

Claus.

I was so miffed when Speilberg did his "politically correct" re-release of ET, (solgiers carrying walkie talkies instead of guns, ect). I certainly preferred the original release. Unlike a lot of people, I quickly grew tired of the movie. Maybe the "saccharin" level of the film is a little too high for me. [Smile]
