Yes, Fox DVD did release the original, however what put me of buying it at the time, was that it was a 4:3 transfer not 16:9 [Frown]

Great article! Though since this is from 2010, its worth the update to mention that there are "unofficial" HD anamorphic releases of the original trilogy.

Though if someone wants to telecine their super 8 prints into HD, that will probably be the best BluRay experience:-P

It makes me incredibly happy to own both super 8 versions, the lovely Derann print but even moreso, the "unofficial" Cineavision scope 1977 version as, that is nearly impossible to see today.

I remember when they came out with that two disc (for each film) special edition DVD set, which supposedly had to special edition restored version and the original version of the feature from 1977, and the original 1977 version was NOT the original.

So, HAH George Lucas! This is one fan who truly gets to see the ORIGINAL un-retouched 1977 version of the film!! TAKE THAT!!!
