I went to see the excellent "Captain Phillips" tonight. Just before the film began, a couple walked in, sat at the end of my row and tucked into a bag of fish and chips! They even brought forks. They stank the place out and nobody else seemed concerned. The theatre clearly shows a policy on not bringing in your own food but clearly does not have enough staff to police it (they are all too busy selling overpriced popcorn).

We did enforce a no alcohol, no hot food policy, anyone like that mentioned, would be asked to leave. The thing is how did they get it in the first place?....never come across that type of thing before, its certainly pretty rude. One amusing incident I did come across...I entered a cinema to check things out before the next session and came across four young boys on there hands and knees picking up popcorn. I asked the usher what's going on....the reply, they made this mess [Mad] they can clean it up. I thought [Roll Eyes] fair enough and left...they wont do that again [Big Grin]

So, they should Graham! In this instance, she was about 40 and should have known better. I suppose, at least in my case, the fishy smell added an extra dimension to Tom Hanks' ocean drama!

Is Captain Phillips about the invention of the Phillips screw driver? [Big Grin]

Years ago I went to a screening of "Driving Miss Daisy". Right in front of me in the next row were two young "ladies" who wouldn't stop talking. After several minutes of trying to see and hear the film I got fed up. Shouting at them loudly enough so that the entire cinema could hear me I told them I bought my ticket to see and hear the movie not to listen to them. They shut their mouths (finally!) after that...

Good on you, Joe. It's sad that employees are usually unavailable to do that for us!

Years ago I was watching sex, lies and videotape in a second-run cinema, what we called a "dollar house."

At some point I became aware of a competing soundtrack, then a laugh track.

I looked across the aisle. Some distance away in the other bank of seats, three teenage girls were watching Married With Children on a battery-powered portable TV!

What became a real pain is that you find often people using their mobile phone during the projection. So, you're disturb by the light or by their voice, when it is not by the ring.

What amazes me is that these (insert your favorite expletive here) pay for a ticket then don't bother to pay attention to what they came there to view in the first place! Especially since ticket prices are so high nowadays. And you can't count on the Ushers to do much of anything because they are probably afraid that they would be attacked after the cinema closed. Given the behavior of some, I can't say I blame them!

Agreed Joe. The system is at fault. Just like supermarkets, they are being run by just enough staff to stay open as long as all is running well. I sent a letter of complaint to Reading Cinemas but doubt they will reply.
