If it is genuine, it certainly isn't an 8mm spool. It has a square shaft which indicates its use for 16mm. However it seems that it's too wide for 16mm but would probably accommodate 35mm.

It would hold in excess of 6000 ft.

I'd love to know the story behind it. It looks like somebody put a lot of effort into it.

I'm sure it's purely decorative, and it kinda..speaks to me!

(The question is if I hung it on our wall would my Wife continue to speak to me!)
