Folks, I'm just about done with a video on film stocks and film fade and how to store fadey prints, (to be released this Friday or Saturday), and my next project is to dedicate a whole video to super 8 optical sound ...

The trouble is, I have a few optical sound related things, (old optical sound cassettes, of course, films) ...

But I don't have many photo's and such that I can add to it ...

Therefore ...

Could any charitable person please provide such things as ...

Photo's of the old projectors that they used to have on in-flight movies.

Different cassettes, (especially a picture of that large cassette that was used for the inflight movie, as it held a full feature on it! I've never yet seen a picture of that!).

... and such related things.

If you post them on here, if I try to download them, I get that naughty picture instead, so please direct any photo's to ...

toac2001@hotmail.com

... and I, Osi, thank you very much ahead of time!

I remember seeing an excellent picture of an airline stewardess loading a cartridge into the film projector inside an airplane. It was on the front cover of an issue of the German magazine Small Film Format. I don't have that issue myself but perhaps someone else does and could post.

I don't remember the title but there is a film with Jerry Lewis in which he plays a pilot and there is a projector in the plane and a funny scene with it. It may be the film telling the story of a lillte girl who lost her father and has to choose among her uncles (all played by Jerry Lewis).

Try contacting Juergen Lossau here on this forum. He might have the photos used in an old issue of Smallfilm covering exactly this subject. I have the issue somewhere but I would have to locate it.

Cheers

In Jurgen Lossau'a book "Film Projectors" on page 281 is a photo showing an IMPAK projector made by Inflight Motion Pictures being loaded by a flight attendant. The Super 8 projector hinged down from the luggage rack.

Jurgen says that an IMPAK model 45 was used on Lufthansa DC-10 long-haul flights between 1974 and 1984.

A machine is on public display at a Film Museum in Deidesheim, Germany.

Lee's picture was taken in 1925, however it appears that the first in-flight movie was in 1921.

Maurice! That is so incredible, (in a grand way, of course!)

I would have never even thought of silent picture in-flight movies, but it would obviously be possible, as is evidenced by that link you gave. Kudos, my friend!
