Simon mow the grass in November. Too damn cold! You must be on a promise. [Wink] [Wink] Nice cold dry weather only 110 miles you could be there in two hours. Tell her you are away to see a man about a horse first thing on Sunday morning. [Eek!]

Plus always go shopping for the week's food on a Sunday, so Blackpool interferes with that.

Hi all,

well the meal and the quiz were excellent - i missed the film show as I was knackered from the drive from South Wales - in an hour and 15mins the convention starts - looking forward to it - plus there was plenty of video and still footage taken last night - so if all goes well - i'll definitely be back next year [Smile]

I'm back home with films, materials and good memories. I was amazed to see how many people were at the Saturday night dinner. Needeless to say, the food was excellent. There has been a cine quizz (at which I must admitt I have not been brillant at all), a riffle and a super 8 projection (with a wonderful Fumeo machine). Of course, an important part of such an evening is the meeting of other cine amateurs afficionados. I was luck to meet several members of this forum and can now put a face on several names. Yesterday has been a busy day with a big room full of films, projectors and other material and another room in which three projections (two super 8 ones and a 9.5 one)and an auction happened. Talking with different people, I learned some interesting things and I was Lucky to see how the new lamp that has been discussed on this forum works. I was impressed by the difference with my Buckingham light output and the modified one I saw at Blackpool. The only regret I have is that I haven't been there before. If I can, I will try to go to the Blackpool Film Fair again. For those who are afraid of the costs of such a Journey, I paid 28.10 £ for the London/Blackpool coach Journey (it was a return ticket) and my hotel room costed 24 £ (the breakfast costed an extra 2.50 £ which is cheaper than what it would have costed outside the hotel).
 -
 -
The fabulous projector. David Watson (I thank again for everything) stands beside.
 -
The riffle prizes dispayed. The ticket costs only one pound.
 -
Good attendance.
 -
Keith Wilton, who organizes the BFCC, shared some souvenirs with us.

I am pleased you enjoyed your weekend Dominique and was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the accommodation and Breakfast etc was.

Great photos there of Keith and everyone else and good to see the finest Super 8mm Projector ever made, was present for all to see. The Fumeo 9145 really is an awesome piece of kit for those with very thick floorboards! 😂😂😂

Hi Nigel.

I wasn't able to attend last weekend's Blackpool Convention.

Do you still have any Super8 films left for sale?

If so, would you like to send me a 'pm' with a list of the titles and prices?

Many thanks.

Ali.

Thanks again to all those who welcomed me at Blackpool.

Antonio, I took the coach on Saturday morning at 8 am and arrived in Blackpool at 2:20 pm as scheduled. For the way back, I left Blackpool at 10:15 pm and arrived in London a little bit before 8 am, so later than the officila time (6:15). I was surprised that the driver apologized several times for the delay. That has never happened on the continent (and I travelled by coaches many many times).

I'm not sure who won the 'Carousel' feature (there were 25 prizes) but I think the first winner had it. We were almost overwhelmed by the demand for tickets (buyers amazingly spent up to £40, which meant they had 200 tickets!) so there has been some talk of possibly making them £2 a strip or 3 strips for £5 next year, NOT to encourage people to spend more but to reduce the number of tickets that need to be quickly processed.

I must thank the Hilton staff for a very good meal on Saturday, which brought a lot of compliments. Great to see Dominique there, despite what must have been a very long and tiring journey from Belgium. David Watson's Fumeo was phenomenal and surprisingly quiet. During the packing up afterwards, I got to hold one of the removable arms and I'm sure just this was heavier than my lightest Elmo!

Compliments to David Guest and all who made Sunday (and the Friday evening show) such a success. I'm sure the attendance increased once again and it was striking to see dealers happily still selling films after 4pm, when in previous years many were drifting away by then. The auction clearly benefitted from being in the cinema again as the seats attracted a much larger number. The 9.5 collectors at this got some great bargains.

It was also encouraging see some younger people there (including at least two young women that I know were NOT brought along by men!) and contributing to a sense of the event bringing in new blood. We wouldn't have dared predict it after Derann's demise in 2011, but I feel there's now a sense of Blackpool going from strength to strength. As always, the socialising complements the film viewing and buying and it's quite something to chat to people from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as a good contingent from the Midlands, London and other places further afield such as Portsmouth and Plymouth. I met one chap from the Isle of Man drawn back for the first time in 10 years, and that illustrates that the event has gained a reputation for being unmissable.
