Richard Hatch, the actor who played "Apollo" in the original Battlestar Galactica, has passed on at the age of 71. I always admired his character, (though, I must confess, that I wanted to be Starbuck more, the "Rogues" are always more fun to play), and I think I'll pull out those 2 600ft Universal 8 digests that I have and watch them tonight, in honor of the gentleman ...

He also had a small but returning role in the new Battlestar Galactica series as well. If I remember, he was a prisoner on the prison ship. He also attempted to start a new Battlestar galactica series as well and made a short pilot "episode" for it, but wasn't able to sell it sucessfully, which is a shame, as he was actually able to get John Colicos (Balter) and the second in command of the Galatica to act in it as well, as well as, of course, himself playing "Apollo"!

I actually thought his role in the most recent Galactica series was better than Apollo. A much more interesting character.

He started out as prisoner on the prison ship but his character took on more importance over time. He was a political prisoner that was soon freed and slowly started to build an opposition party of sorts.
