OK so as there is a topic for good ebay sellers i thought id do one for the those to avoid
Today i have encountered such a person ebay id MATWAR-81
This guy is useing ebay as a platform to do private sales and avoid the fees ,i bid on a joblot of 16mm films from him and offred a buy now price ,he said he would have to get back to me the next day he tells me someone has doubled the offer i mad e,so i asked if the auction would carry on ,never heard back from him then this morning the auction had been ended evern though i was top bidder for a lot of money and others had bid ,i know he sold to the other person and ebay are dealing with this one as they told me it will not be tolerated
I sell on ebay regular and would never do this .the sad thing is if hed have let the auction run i think he would have got a lot more ,anyway this guy should be avoided at all costs to avoid disappointment etc .

Well done Nigel
We need to know about these sellers. eBay is a breeding ground for them.

He is following a pattern seen daily on Ebay Nigel - I'm not in anyway condoning his actions but Ebay don't help with the equivalent of 13% end of auction charges when you factor in Ebay & PayPal fees - back in the day when this was reduced for higher price items it was fairer then Ebay got greedy.

By asking him for a Buy It Now price do you wonder if you had encouraged him in some way too? Once bids have been received unless he had an un-reached reserve price he would not have been able to add a Buy It Now option for you?

Hi,kevin
Yes maybe i did encourage him which if i did i regret ,but to be honest i think the 10% ebay fees is fair because at the end of the day they are running a business and other auctions charge more to list and to sell and even buyer pays comission ,the problem is our items be it films or equipment are not every day things now s getting a value is not always easy ,but anyway what i would say is if you put the item on ebay you know the fees and you should let it run id like to know how he done it also as giving out addresses and phone numbers on ebay is now banned a friend of mine got a 1 week ebay ban for doing such and if he does it again hes banned for life so at least they are cracking down on this behaviour.

I agree with you 100% Nigel - I have had many offers in the past to pull auctions of mine and always say politely I would prefer the auction to run its course to be fair to all bidders - usually I've done better this way and ended up with a higher price than ever offered as a Buy It Now - I also understand they have a business to run but my gripe is whilst say £3 to Ebay for a £30 film sale is fair, when you sell a high value item the charges take the mickey as Ebay have no higher fees to cover themselves - this week they had a £1 final sale offer which encouraged me to list on there for the first time in months - without this offer my fees currently would be nearly £100 this week rather than the few quid I will pay them due to the special final fee pricing. More offers like this from them would be great and encourage me back on there more regularly.

Kevin.

Agree with you on there fees, they are starting to take the P a bit now. you need to sell for high prices just to compensate what they take out of you now. I still cant work out if there coning me sometimes.

I agree fees can be high but that does not justify this kind of action .

Another very good reason to sell here on the forums direct to like minded friends rather than on Ebay - quote a price, possibly agree a lower price deal if needed to close the sale, and no fees to pay. Ironically the last time I sold cine films on Ebay they were purchased by 8mm Forum members using their Ebay accounts anyway!

I think my issue with Ebay not reducing their % on higher sale prices relates to the fact you do all the work yourself to list the items - take the photos, type the details, pay them to list it (in the case of reserve price or BIN options), pay them again when it sells - all the Ebay involvement in this process is provided by software - albeit very cleverly written software - if it meant their costs were 10x higher for a £100 sale than a £10 sale then fair dos but that is simply not the case.

Same reason I refuse to use automated self service aisles in supermarkets - after walking around. loading the items into a trolley, and afterwards loading them into bags the least I expect is for an actual human being to serve me at the end of this process - remember VAT was originally a replacement for Customer Service Tax so if there is no customer service (from a real person) during a sale why should any VAT be payable?

yes I think you educated him by asking him if he had a buy it now price you would have been pleased if he would have so there it goes .re ebay fees .percentage for selling, but the biggest con is paypal I always put 2 rates of postage on when selling one if paying by paypal and a cheeper one if paying with cheque this was ok till someone bid on a film of mine and reported me so ebay stopped me from giving this option evry one always wants to pay with paypal

I don't really follow your story, Nigel.

So, MATWAR-81 was listing an item

You offered him for a private sale.

Should MATWAR-81 agreed with you offer, he/she will cancel the listing.

Now, he cancel the listing but selling it to somebody else (or might just cancel it after realizing his item(s) had more value...who knows?)

So are you complaining because he cancelling the listing or selling it to somebody else?

Cancelling the listing although is not encouraged by Ebay but is totally legit. And MATWAR-81 will cancel the listing too if he/she agreed with your offer, but this means somebody else in the bidder list will get annoyed.

If I were you, I will never send an offer to a listing that still runs.

Cheers,

Yes I guess I lesson learned here never ask for a buy it now price, but I didn't try to buy out side eBay and I was high. Bidder at the time ,doesn't matter now though as other films will turn up .
