As I had the opportunity to say it in the thread about the 50 years of the Ciné Club 9.5 de France (in the 9.5 section, of course), I was Lucky to visit this week-end a private museum in Nevers (two hours from Paris by train). I was expecting to see 10 projectors in a dedicated room. The museum is a whole house and there is cine material everywhere. An Ali Baba's cave that is a dream for all of us.

 -

The entrance. The museum hosted the 9.5 French Club's anniversary, hence the sign.

 -

Before you enter, you're already in the cine world.

 -

That's only the beginning...

 -

Pathé has a special room.

HA HA, I think you mean "Aladdin's Cave" Dom. Some old projectors there indeed, and I'll bet they still work too.

I thought Ali Baba's cave had the same meaning as la caverne d'Ali Baba :-)

Dominique, most people think Aladdin's cave is full of treasure and Ali Baba's is only full of the 40 thieves. [Smile]

Wow Dom, that's a place worth a visit. I always feel a little bit sorry that most of the stuff in cases will never again see the light of day, especially so in the case of projectors that are now quite rare. Hope the owner has a son who is as fond of it all as he obviously is. Thanks for the fab pictures. I've always had a soft spot for 9.5 as I started, like many others, with a Pathescope Ace.

Dave, I hope, too this museum will never disappear.

 -

 -

Beside the record player, it is not an early television set but a cine machine !

 -

Monsieur Rigaud showing one of his threasures to Monsieur Huard, the 9.5 Club's projectionist.

 -

I'm sure many membres of the forum would have appreciated to be among the visitors :-)

That was the last photo. There is also a nice projection room but I couldn't picture it due to the lack of light (there has been a projection and when we left the place, the light was not completely turned on, I should have taken a photo before)

I was kindly sent a photo on which I appear. As I had no picture of the projection room, it will complete the preceeding photos.I will more than probably wear this week-end at the British Get Together 9.5 the same sweat shirt with the reference of the gauge on it (occasions to wear this sweat shirt are too seldom :-)

Wow, Incredible collection. He must be a multi millionaire to have collected all that gear and films. It puts our "Projected Picture Trust, the B.F.I. and Bradford to shame. The old Museum of the Moving Image was the nearest we had but it closed some years ago. The Curzon collection was quite good, but that has also now gone.
Probably the nearest we Have is the Cinema Museum, in Kennington, London, run by Ron Grant, is the nearest we have in the U.K.
Love your pics. Hope to see you at Harpenden. Ken Finch. [Smile]

Thank you for your comment, Ken. I will be at Harpenden :-)
The owner is, as far as I know, not a multi millionaire, just someone rich of passion. Who knows if there are no private collections like this in the UK, in France or even in Belgium...
