I thought i would update this thread for the year 2018
As the year draws to a close i thought i would share with you all my buys of 2017,
It's been a lot more than i should have bought but you only live once and with a few things going on at my end next year may not be too good a year, however, hopefully Blackpool will be a nice bit of escape from all of the bad things that are going on.

...I have to admit 2017 was indeed a very busy year for me having re-entering the hobby after a 40 year absence. What I have learned has been amazing, thanks to the most part by this very forum and to all the members who were ready to reply to my now obvious rookie questions. For that, Thanks!
There was one particular endeavor of mine that I truly believe could not have been achieved save for this Forum's members: Acquiring all 3X600' reels/spools of The Fog , in scope. It Started with an eBay purchase of part 3, and the search for the other 2 parts went on for months. I finally completed the feature. Not possible, I think, Had I not joined This Forum, and was fortunate to be accepted.
So Thanks to the Forum, and to you two members in particular for making it happen. Happy Holidays to all!

I decided to refrain from the forum and, indeed, Ebay for the last three days or so, and concentrate on the festivities.
Returning now, as I am doing, I read this wonderful topic.
Since I started collecting films in 1972-ish (starting with 50' black and white silents, progressing to features.....with sound!) I can honestly say that 2017 has been my BEST EVER YEAR BAR NONE for film purchases. Some of these I could only dare to dream would ever adorn my collection. But in the last 365 ish days.....THEY HAVE DONE!

Get on Melvin, i forgot that you bought that one, I'm pleased its gone to a good home,
My other two turned up from Steve at the Reel Image today,
Three on Couch, good old Jerry Lewis 400 footer,
A very rare trailer on 8mm Pulp Fiction, A1 quality to and it appears to be on brown pre stripe stock so the sound its stonking.
Only problem was for some reason i got hit with £14.00 import bill, (VAT and a rip off fee from Royal mail) so this will probably put paid to me buying from the States again unless it is really something special, i was well peed off with this as the two films were only $40 so now this import crap makes it expensive. First time thats ever happened to me but these two titles now conclude my list for 2017
Right then, whats going to be my first buy of 2018 ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

2017 has also been the best year for me, with 11 16mm features purchased between March and November. I couldn't afford to buy that amount during the Golden Age of Super 8 in the 70s and early 80s. There seems to have been better titles on offer this year. My increase has probably been due to spending more time looking on Ebay, and buying through the Global Shipping Programme. Most were listed at BIN prices, which with customs and postage, often worked out no dearer than what you would expect to pay from a UK dealer.
Among the titles I picked up were,
Zulu
Wife of Monte Cristo
Sword of Monte Cristo
The Four Feathers (Very nice copy from Mr Guest)
The gem of my collection, now has to be, simply for it's rarity, 'My Wife's Family', a comedy with Ted Ray and Ronald Shiner.
I had actually had to stop adding due to the extreme shortage of space, but then had to come back when David listed 'Jason and the Argonauts'; this has been my most desired film since Derann issued a Super 8 feature, which must be over 30 years ago.
Strangely, after waiting all these years; within two weeks of receiving it, I found a local shop selling imported wine from Georgia, in clay bottles. One of them showed Jason and the Argonauts. I learned from my wife that Colchis, where the golden fleece was is in present day Georgia. Needless to say I have added this bottle to my collection.
I also purchased a print of 'Siege of the Saxons', which was the supporting feature to Jason in 1963.
