Without moving or buying additional equipment is there a way to wirelessly send dvd playback to a tv in another room?

Probably not, unless you are an electronics wizard, however, our local Currys PC World has a wireless video sender @ GBP £59.99 so there such items available if you are prepared to pay for one.

Hi Brad...A few years ago I started converting my DVD's to .mp4 files with Handbrake - https://handbrake.fr/ - and storing them on an external hard drive connected to my home network( USB drive connected to my Netgear router.) I have Chromecast dongles ($35) on all my TV's. I installed a free media app/server called PLEX - https://www.plex.tv/ - on my computer and pointed PLEX to use the movie files on the USB drive. PLEX will automatically display all the movies with poster art and information. You just select the movie you want to see and you can watch it on your computer or cast it to any Chromecast TV device on your wifi network. There is also a $5 PLEX phone app that you can use to select movies in your network and control the casting to the Chromecast.

When my USB drive finally crashed about a year ago (It was backed up)...I bought a Western Digital NAS drive. It had the PLEX server built-in and now I don't even have to have my PC on. It runs 24/7 which is nice since you can give access to friends or relatives so they can stream movies off your PLEX server over the internet. Previously I would turn off my PC when I would go to bed not realizing someone in my family was watching a movie on my PLEX...oooops! With the NAS this doesn't happen any more [Smile]

I know this doesn't answer your question. Probably a device like Maurice suggested would work. However...I've found a lot more flexibilty in watching my digital movie collection now.

Thank you. Both options seem great, but it seems streaming (although not truly cost prohibitive) appears to be the simplest solution

Certainly with a smart tv and internet you can do that.

I have tried this with my old LCD hooked up to my smart TV, and I can watch the LD on my cellphone using the internet.

This can be done if the smart TV and the cellphone are using the same network.

Certainly my trial above with a cellphone can be replaced by another smart TV.

So by having this, you need to have 2 smart TVs, one acts as a "transmiter" and the other one is as a "receiver".
