Have you ever been to the cinema and been the only one sitting in the auditorium? If so, which film was it, and when?

Mine was about 25 years ago at a multiplex that was built over a filled in dock in Hull. Sadly, it suffered from sinking, and was demolished within 10 years of being built.
Anyway, it was a really dark, foggy night and this multiplex was doing a one-off showing of "Paul McCartney's 'Get Back' " which was a concert film which basically went almost straight to dvd.
I was the solitary person in there...… and it was heaven! Total silence to absorb the sound and vision. I wonder if that 35mm print still exists?

A close second came in the late 1970's. I went to see the rock opera "Tommy" in a 2000 seater...… and there were only 7 of us in there.

Over to you......

in 1988. went to see SCANDAL. stared John Hurt and Joanne Whalley. re the Christine Keeler affair. through the whole film i was the only one in. what made it so funny was that after 20 minutes of adverts and trailers the ice cream lady came in with a tray full of ice cream and stood by the screen for 5 minutes before leaving. and i didn't even buy one.

I can't ever recall being the only one sitting in the auditorium except for when i gave myself a private showing but i do recall being the only one in the projection box playing to an empty auditorium many times. [Wink]

This happened to me when I went to the matinee! Through the whole movie I was the only one! And I enjoyed it!

Well on June 2, 2019 my son and I went to see Domino (Brian DePalma’s new film) and there was one other person wandered in. It just came out May 31 and only showed for one week...we may have been the only ones buying tickets. Very limited release...it was only showing at one cinema in northeastern Ohio. I’ve seen many films at the cinema were I am the only one there.

I'm sorry I can't remember the film, but I was the only one in the auditorium of the Streatham ABC (a small screen in the tripled cinema) one afternoon. The projectionist came in after the adverts etc and said he had started early and that the show wouldn't start for another 20minutes so I was free to go out and walk around if I wanted.

I went to see 'Stan and Ollie', and, thinking it would be packed out, chose the Friday 5p.m. showing. I sat in splendid isolation. Where was everyone else? Still, it was a lovely experience. No phones. No talking, and no distractions. Some years ago I visited a small cinema on the outskirts of Birmingham. They were showing a western and it was 3 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon. Not a soul in the place and the film was half way through. The building was long and somewhat narrow. The echo so bad I couldn't tell what was being said. By 6p.m. the place was full and the sound fine!
