Well I have been in the UK with my lovely wife for 5 days now, and this was the first day of the Harpenden get-together so I thought I would post some updating.

This update begins last night (Wed Sept 7)when I met up with Rob Koeling in London to exchange some films and go catch some bands over at the 100 Club on Oxford Street... The next morning my wife and I took the train in to Harpenden and began meeting people. The town is a very beautiful sort of yuppy atmosphere, but a nice place for a visit. We ate the the worst named restaurant in the world called the Slug and Lettuce, but the food was really pretty great (and 2 for 1 deserts made me very happy)...
At the get together I finally met one of my hero/mentors Grahame Newnham who has answered a few hundred emails from me over the years beginning when I was first learning about 9.5...He and Warton were my biggest sources of information when I finally went from someone interested, to someone with a projector and films. I have had to force myself to walk away already for fear of talking his ear off....

Met a few other folks like Graham Murray, Graham Sinden, Graham (John) Ferrari, Graham (Hugh) Hale, and many other Grahams and their wives (and girlfriends)..

After the meet/reception it was over to the actual hall for the first of 2 competitive film shows. Grahame Newnham was given the projecting duties since the usual member, Roger Spence has been sidelined. Because of this there was no time to preview the films and Grahame did a non-enviable job of projecting films of multiple 9.5 formats (sound on film, sound on tape, sound on CD)..Add to that a small sound wow on the initial projector, and the show was not without a few challenges....

That being said it is amazing to be at a presentation of films made by film enthusiasts, and then to have them voted on..

The films today were as follows:

1 - Festival of Callela - by Graham Murray - a docu on an earlier 9.5 film competition

2 - Central Scotland - by John Ferrari - a look at some of the unique landmarks in Scotland, and comic relief provided by a funny dog.

3 - Forgotten Treasures of Bexley - by Graham Sinden - a slick looking portrait of a little known historical landmark.

4 - Housewives Choice - Michael Snelgrove - Sort of a trick/sneak entry of an award winning film made by someone else in the 1950's---disqualified from any of the awards, but a very funny film.

5 - Manhattan Melody - Graham Murray - a beautiful juxtaposition of 1920's New York and modern cityscapes, utilizing new footage matched with an old 9.5 docu repurposed.

6 - Easy To The Top - Paul Goy - Gorgeous mountaintop photography, but a slightly long look at a Swiss landmark...

There are still a few films that did not fit into todays show, but will be featured in tomorrows "FILMS IN THE HALL"
