In the July newsletter from Derann, Adrian mentions that they will soon be releasing a short from the compilation film "The Animatrix". I just saw the film, which is a collection of animated tales based on stories written by Matrix directors Larry and Andy Wachowski. Soon to be in Super 8 scope & stereo is the"Final Flight Of The Osiris" segment which opens the film, and I think it's a great choice. There's some amazing CGI work (Practically live-action) and terrific battle sequences. Osiris is a nicely structured short with both quiet moments and blasting action scenes. Very nice to have something current and popular available in our favorite format.

Yes, that sounds like a good one. After watching Derann's T-2 excerp "The Chase", I thought it would be great to have a scene from Matrix like this. A scene that does'nt contain major spoilers, like a film's climax, but is self-contained and makes full use of the cinemascope format and special effects that play well on the big screen.

A great clip from Matrix would be the scene where they rescue Lawrence Fishburn's character from the sky scraper building while he's in the custody of the "Agents". I think the whole scene lasts about 15 minutes and is chok-full of action and effects (hanging from a helicopter in flight, gun battles, explosions, ect.) Of course, this should definately be released with a full stereo track. Nick.

Keith Wilton has given me the review copy to look at. The print looks very good but I really need to have a more critical look at it before comparing it to others to decide exactly how good it is. Sound is not as good as Derann's previous stereo release "Gone Nutty" but then that one was exceptional. Again I'll have to check this more thoroughly.

I don't like the film "The Matrix" - main reason being it is a cartoon made to look like a real film. This short is taken from a release called "The Animatrix" and as far as I know did not get a theatrical outing in the UK. This one is computer generated animation which doesn't attempt to be live action and for that it works better. An action-packed, exciting release which should sell. And there's no wishy-washy happy ending.

I'm afraid John Clancy is wrong about "The Last Flight Of The Osiris" not being shown theatrically in the U.K. as it was placed on the front of the Stephen King sc-ifi/horror film "Dreamcatcher", and I actually got to see it on a really large Scope screen at my local multiplex, and it was stunning. I did think at the time 'now where could I get a print of that', so well done Derann, now how about an actual extract from one of "The Matrix" films!

I've had a more critical look at the quality of this release and it is of very similar quality to the 400ft "Pearl Harbor". In other words, it's bloody excellent. The sound is also good but not quite as good as the recent "Gone Nutty" release. However, this is an ideal candidate to run in sync' with the multi-channel tracks on the DVD.
